Charles F. Lear Sr., 89, of Saylorsburg, formerly of 1215 Pericles Place, Whitehall Township, died Wednesday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Ellen C. (Hilbert) Lear of Valley Manor Nursing Center, Coopersburg, and the late Alice Z. (Steiner) Lear.

He was a machinist for Mack Trucks Inc., working in Plant 3 and the crib shop for 47 years before retiring in 1964.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Clinton Lear and Sadie A. (Weaver) Lear Shearer.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Allentown.

Survivors: Wife; daughter, Grace E., wife of Warren R. Thomas, with whom he resided; son, Charles F. Jr. of Catasauqua, three granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.
