SERGENT, Mr. Norwood R. - of Millington, age 86, passed away early Saturday evening January 29, 2011. Norwood R. Sergent was born in Millington, Michigan on September 4, 1924 and was the son of Earl and Edna (Mapes) Sergent. He went into the US Navy and served our country during WWII. On January 31, 1948 Norwood married his wife of 62 years Wanda DeLand. Wanda preceded him in death on October 7, 2010. Norwood retired from General Motors Corp. as a Supervisor. He also served the Millington community for several years at the Millington - Arbela Twps. Fire Department. Norwood leaves his three children; daughters and son in-law, Deborah Greanias, Pamela and Paul Steele, son and daughter in-law, Robert (Bob) and Karen Sergent, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brothers, Earl, Clyde and Don Sergent. Besides his wife Norwood was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gregory Greanias, and a sister, Mrs. Lois Glady. The Sergent family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and also prior to the funeral on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until services begin. Funeral services for Norwood will be at the Hanlin Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 with the burial to follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Mr. Earl L. Sergent of Millington, MI passed away early Wednesday evening August 29, 2018 at the age of 92.

Earl was born in Millington where he was a life long resident, and was born on April 6, 1926, and was the son of Earl S. and Edna Sergent. Earl married Miss Barbara Hyslop on January 22, 1949, and together they have celebrated 69 years of marriage. Earl retired in 1999 from General Motors Parts Division of Swartz Creek, Michigan. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In his earlier years Earl served on the St. Paul Board of Education, and was the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball coach. He was also a past member of the Farm Bureau, and the Millington Lions Club.

Earl leaves his wife Barbara. He leaves also his children; Edward (Lillian) Sergent, Vernard (Polly) Sergent, Ann Buff, and Lloyd (Buff) Sergent, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a sister in-law Dorothy Perry. Earl also leaves several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents Earl is preceded in death by; an infant son David, three brothers, Norwood, Clyde, Donald, and a sister Lois Glady.

Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington where the family will receive friends on Thursday September 6, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Earl will lie in state on Friday September 7, 2018 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church from 12:00 pm until the services begin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday September 7, 2018 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Millington. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Pastor James Burner will deliver the funeral message and the closing committal prayer at the cemetery. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to a charity of one’s choice.

Clyde Gordon Sergent Sr was born in Millington, MI on September 10, 1930 to Earl and Edna (Mapes) Sergent. When he graduated from Millington High School he joined the Navy. Clyde served on a Naval Destroyer during the Korean War. While in the service on September 5, 1953 Clyde married Miss Izora Tharp in California. He and Izora celebrated 62 years of marriage before her passing six months to the day on May 10, 2016. Clyde retired from General Motors and farming. He loved to bowl, hunt in the U.P. and spend time with family and friends.

Clyde leaves his children. Daughter and son in-law; Shirley and Dan Seney two sons and daughter in-laws; Clyde and Dee Sergent Jr. and John and Ann Sergent. He leaves also his grandchildren; Chad and Terri Seney, Patrick (friend Denise) Sergent, Christopher Sergent and his fiancé Chelsea, Sadie Sergent (friend Brandon), and Cole Sergent, his great grandchildren; Cashus, Sophia, and Samson Seney. Clyde leaves a brother and sister in-law, Earl and Barb Sergent, sister in-law, Loneta Rathgeber, and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his wife and parents; Clyde is also preceded in death by, two brothers; Norwood and Donald Sergent, a sister Lois (Sergent) Glady, along with other extended family; brothers and sister’s in-law.

The Sergent family has honored Clyde’s wish and cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration gathering from11:00 until 2:00 pm on Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Hanlin Funeral Home.
