After graduation he taught special education for gifted children at Saratoga High School. He then began working for a private consulting firm. Shortly thereafter, Jay formed his own company, Management Paradigms, where he worked for several firms including Good Year Tire, EBMUD, and for the past eighteen years USS-POSCO Industries. Jay loved languages, he was fluent in Spanish, French and Italian. Jay was proud to be an American. He loved traveling and experiencing different cultures, wine and foods around the world. He was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry and music. One of Jay's closest friends, was Joan Mary Stein, the love of his life. They shared the last twenty two years together - sharing family, traveling extensively and spending many weekends and holidays in South Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area. Together they enjoyed entertaining with exquisite cooking and wine tasting.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; Dorothy and Robert Bourgerie and his brother Terry. He is survived by his sister, Kay Adams, and his brothers, Donald and Timothy Bourgerie, and many aunts, nieces and nephews. The memorial services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Antioch on August 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Antioch Country Club.
