DECKER, 90, formerly of East Smithfield, Pa. died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at the Bradford County Manor. Born Oct. 21, 1912 in Springfield Twp., Pa. the daughter of Freeman and Bessie Ockerman Gates. Barbara was a high school graduate of Troy High School in 1930, she then graduated from Mansfield College in 1932, she then went back to Mansfield to get her B.S., in 1963 and graduated from Elmira College in 1970 with her Master’s. She was an elementary teacher at the Harriet Childs School in East Smithfield from 1932-1936 and 1955 to June 1974 when she retired. Barbara was an 80-year-member of the East Smithfield United Methodist Church where she was very active until illness prevented her from participating; the Wetona WTCU; the Towanda Order of the Eastern Star; and the Bradford-Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association; and the Pennsylvania Retired Teacher Assoc. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Predeceased by her husband, Donald A. Decker, Sept. 25, 1988. Survived by her best friend, Darleen Hillyard and her family of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. Brian and Laura Harris and their family of East Smithfield, Pa. Jack and Christine Woodworth-Bartho of Salisbury, England and Howie Sassar of Portugal and Elaine Sassar of Virginia. Family and friends may call at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main St., Athens, Pa. Friday Aug. 15, 2003 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. at the East Smithfield United Methodist Church with her pastor, the Rev. William Lusk officiating and the Rev. Dean Walrath of the Canton United Methodist Church co-officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, Pa. Alma E. Seifert

Alma E. Seifert of Ferndale died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, Lehigh County. She was 63.

She was the wife of Floyd R. Seifert, who died Oct. 10.

Born in Tinicum Township, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Eda Gruver Yerger.

She was a member of Durham Lutheran Church, and of the Young at Heart Club of the church.

She is survived by two sons, Barry F. of trumbauerville and Richard D. of Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Robert and Albert both of Tinicum; two sisters, Kathryn Skiffington of Lansdale and Sarah Yerger of Tinicum; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Durham Cemetery, Durham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Durham Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Socirty, Broad Street, Bethlehem.

Alexis, the future bride, is a graduate of North Platte High School.

Matthew, the prospective groom, is the son of Robert and Susan Nolan, of North Platte. He is a graduate of West Kearney High School. Matthew is employed at the Union Pacific Railroad.

Clarence Nicholas Berger was a Co-Owner- Clarpal Dairy DArm. Clarence Berger, age 88, died Friday in Doylestown Hospital. Born July 17, 1923 on the family dairy farm in Kintnersville, PA, he was a son of the late Oscar and Katie Nicholas Berger. Later, Clarence and his late brother, Paul, became co-owners of the Clarpal Dairy Farm were Clarencefarmed and lived his whole life. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham, PA and was active in the church serving on coucil and as financial secretary as well as other numerous committees including the Durham Cemetery committee. He was also instrumental in organizing the Care A Lot PreSchool of the church where he was a past director.

He was a member of the PA Farm Bureau where he served as former Director and past President of Bucks County and from 1992 to 2000 served as Director on the State level. He was also a member of the Legislative, State Executive and Membership Committees of the Farm Bureau. He was a member of the State, National Plumsteadville and Pomona Grange. On the National level he earned the highest honor of seven degrees. He was a member of the Springfield Lyons Club and the Riegelsville Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for Bucks County Extension, Nockamixon Historical Society and Nockamixon Twp. Supervisor and Zoning Committee.

Survivors: He is survived by four nieces and nephews, Darlene Durns, Bonnie Vlasics, Larry and Donald Berger; two sisters-in-law, Anna Mary Keeler, her husband, Harold, and family and Edith Sames and family. In addition to his brother, Paul, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; and two sisters, Evelyn Nicholas and Kathryn Seigle.

Services: Friends may call at the Robert W. Snyder Funeral Home, Riegelsville, PA. Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment in the Durham Cemetery will be private. A memorial service will be held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham on August 27 at 11 a.m. Contributions: Memorial contributions may bemade to the church, PO Box 100, Durham, PA 18039.

Mrs. Sassman was born in Kingston, and lived in Somerset since 1951.

Mrs. Sassman was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, who died in 1981; two brothers, Raymond Mondone and Samuel Mullen, and five sisters, Adeline Lloyd, Rose Rubert, Lillian Guiseppe, Carrie Mason and Mary Dinardo. Mrs. Sassman was a devoted wife and mother.

Mrs. Sassman is survived by her son, Raymond Sassman, and his wife, Mary Jane, of Hamilton Square, and her daughter, Joyce Donini of Dayton; a brother, Leber Mondogni of Cranbury; three grandchildren, Cameran Huestis and her husband, Kevin, Scott Sassman and his wife, Susana, and Craig Donini; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Huestis and Kasey Sassman, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Matthias R.C. Church in Somerset. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick. Relatives and friends may call noon-2 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
