Lawrence W. "Bill'' Coleman, age 75, of Belton, MO, passed away October 30, 1999, at Belton Research Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 3 at the Belton United Methodist Church with burial in Belton Cemetery.

Bill was born May 16, 1924, in Denver, CO, and spent his early years in Denver graduating from high school there. He met and married Phyllis Lanphere in Denver in October 1942. They owned and operated the Bill Coleman State Farm Insurance Agency in Belton
He was proud of serving in all of the branches of service, joining the Marine Corps at age 17, and spent three years in the South Pacific with the first Marine Division during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Bill returned to Denver and spent a year as a civilian reentering service in the Navy. Then he went into the army air Corps, crossing services again and entered the Air Force. He served in the Korean conflict and continued service until retirement in 1964. He was in the 9964th Air Reserve Squadron in Belton when he retired. Bill was one of only a few enlisted persons who flew as a pilot during his career.
He was a member of Belton United Methodist Church a former member of Belton-Raymore Rotary Club.
He was active in the Masons, attaining the position of Worshipful Master.
He was active in local square dance clubs: Rambling Rebels, Ridge Runners and Live Wires.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Coleman in 1993 and a brother, George Coleman.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ella Jane Coleman (daughter of Norma Mason, Avon), whom he married in 1994; sons, Bruce Coleman and wife, Lori, Springfield, MO, and Lynn Coleman and wife, Chrys, Pensacola, FL; stepson,Tom Homer and wife, Caren, Grandview, MO; stepdaughter, Cheri and husband, Eric Graham, Belton, MO; brother, Ben Coleman and wife, Fran, Denver, CO; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Arrangements were in charge of E.K. George & Sons, 611 Chestnut, Belton, MO, (816) 966-0250.
Among those attending the services were Norma Mason, Avon and Casey and Rosemary Empson, Altona.
