LAWRENCEVILLE -- Alfred B. Heavener, 73, died Sunday in the University Medical Center, Princeton.
Born in Lansdale, PA, he had resided in Lawrence for 23 years.
Mr. Heavener was a retired animal control officer in both Lawrence and Princeton Townships.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart Medal while serving with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines.
Mr. Heavener was a former member and past exalted ruler of Lawrence Elks Lodge #2412 B.P.O.E. He was a member of Hamilton Elks Lodge #2262 B.P.O.E., Lawrence Post #3022 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and life member of both the Lawrence Post #414 American Legion and the Marine Corps League.
Son of the late Claude and Mable Fowler Heavener, he is survived by his long time companion Sarah Yeoman; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alfred B. Heavener Jr. of California, Kenneth and Julie Heavener of California, and Patrick and Cynthia Heavener of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Crystal, Brandon, Brianna and Billy Heavener; and two sisters, Agnes Smith and Geraldine Kehler.
A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, with the Rev. Nina Reeder, pastor of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be private in the Mount Zion Cemetery, New Egypt.
