Attended schools in Denville, NJ, graduated in 1965 from Morris Hills Regional High School, after graduation he entered Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, SC. He made this his career. He served three tours in Vietnam, the first shortly after Boot Camp. He was awarded many citation and letters of commendation throughout his military career. He was most proud of the Navy Achivement medal. Yvonne, his wife, was called by David's Commanding Officer, requesting her presence the day it was to be awarded to him. All this was kept secret from him, he was very confused when he saw Yvonne in the CO's office along with other officers.
Although David was a tough task master, his troops respected him. Many good practical jokes were played on David by them with the help of Yvonne. They hosted many fish fries and pig pickins' at their home for his company.
David was nicknamed "Stone Face" by his troops, he demanded proper behavior & respect. The funniest joke could be told and he wouldn't crack a smile. He was a very loving and gentle man, loved a good practical joke and the proudest "Pop" when his grandchildren came along.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Kanapaux-Garrison, daughter, Carrie-Anne, son, Marc, four grandchildren, his mother E. Jane Garrison, sisters Debbie & Diane, brothers Don & Doug, several nieces and a nephew all who loved him very much. He was predeaced by his father, Sheldon C. Garrison in 1987.
After retirerment he and Yvonne relocated to Charleston, SC where her ancestors had settled and parents were born. David started a landscape business which continued until shortly after his death.
