Duane was born on January 24, 1935 in Niles to Walter and Sadi Egmer. On July 1, 2006 he married Joanne Staal. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Cheryl Metzger, Elkhart; son, Doug Egmer (Jo), Constantine, MI; step-daughter, Sandra Jewell (Michael), Sparta, MI; step-son, Kevin Dikker (Megan Van Ravensway), Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Eric Egmer (Christina), Lake Villa, IL, Amanda Egmer, Constantine, MI and Misty Voster (Tim), Three Rivers, MI; great-grandchildren, Ella and Lyla, McKala and Travis, Noah and Gavin, and Corrina and Joseph; sister, Katherine Skalski, Niles; mother-in-law, Faye Staal, Grand Rapids; childhood friends, Allen Hawkinson and Jerry Secore.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Egmer.
Duane proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He loved sailing on Corey Lake for over 30 years. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football, stock car races, and the Notre Dame Symphony. Duane loved camping and having Sunday brunch at the campground office. He was very personable, and asked many questions to learn more about others.
Duane was an accountant by trade. He Co-Founded DoorLite Corp. and owned Pine Creek Painting.
Friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Terry Searls officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, MI.
