Biography

Michael (Mike) Lee Cope was born on 3 August 1938 in Brockway, Jefferson, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 He died on 18 November 2018, at age 80, in Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado.3 He was buried in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois, Clearfield, Pennsylvania.3
US Air Force.4 Michael (Mike) Lee Cope was a Computer Engineer.4 Michael Lee Cope, Sr. was called home to be with his heavenly father on November 18, 2018. Michael was born August 3, 1938, in Brockway, PA. After graduation from Brockway Area High School, Michael enlisted in the USAF. He served 4 years. Upon leaving the military, Michael went to work for Burroughs Corporation as a computer engineer. In 1965, Michael and Anita were relocated to Colorado Springs, CO. where Michael took part in the installation of the first computers inside Cheyenne Mtn. NORAD complex. He attained a Top Secret Clearance. He left the Burroughs Corporation and went to work for the Digital Corporation as a field engineer.

Michael was named District Manager for Hewlett Packard on the military side. Michael was active in Colorado Springs Masonic Lodge #76 and obtained the Scottish Rite 33rd degree. He was also a Shriner and served as a representative for the Crippled Children Hospital.

Michael enjoyed spending time at his property in the Colorado Mountains. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Michael was a private pilot and achieved his multi engine CFI.

Michael was a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, serving as a deacon and several other positons.

Michael is survived by Anita Wood Cope, his sons Michael Lee Cope, II and Clark Laine Cope and daughter Kimber Leigh Demos, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and his best friend, Cole, a black lab. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and his beloved grandson, Edward Zamarripa, Jr.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. The Funeral Service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., Swan-Law Funeral Directors Cascade Chapel. Burial will be at Morningstar Cemetery, DuBois, PA at a later date.
