CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jean C. Battin, 76, of 112 Sequoia Court, and formerly of Delaware County (Pa.), died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born Nov. 15, 1925, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harman Y. and Edna M. Gilmore Cope.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and her graduate degree in teaching from Temple University in Philadelphia.

She taught in the public school system for five years, then taught for a number of years at St. John's Episcopal Church Nursery School in Glen Mills, Pa. She was a private tutor for more than 30 years.

She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Shippensburg, Pa.

She was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Glen Mills, where her husband served at rector for 41 years. She was the former president of St. John's Episcopal Church Nursery School, which she and her husband founded. She also was the former president of the Women of St. John's.

She was member and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Association in Delaware County.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Glen Mills.
