Glenn Wintemute, 94, passed away at his beloved Pitchfork Ranch on October 9, 2019. He was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Long Beach, CA, before entering the Army in 1943. During WWII Glenn served in the South Pacific with Battery B in the 316 Field Artillery of the 81st Infantry. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal, which is given when a member of the Armed Forces has “distinguished himself or herself by heroism not involvng conflict with an enemy.”
In 1948 he married Joy LaVroff with whom he had two sons, Garen (Sacramento, CA) and Eric (Newport Beach, CA). In 1981 he married Patricia Sullivan with whom he had son Mitchell (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) and daughter Anne (Denver, CO). Glenn frequently expressed his pride in his children, and derived immense pleasure from his seven grandchildren: Wolf , Lion, Aria, Ellery, Alexander, Juno and William.
Glenn’s careers spanned several fields including chemist, teacher, and business owner. He retired as President and Director of American Vanguard Corporation (Newport Beach, CA) and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995 when he purchased Pitchfork Ranch. Glenn’s lifelong love of the sea and his military service led him to retrace his path through the South acific in 2006 onboard his yacht, Sentimental Journey. He leaves a legacy of generosity through the Wintemute Family Foundation which he and Patricia formed in 2011. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
