Erroll Irving Wintemute was born on 11 May 1916 in New Westminster, Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.1,2 He died on 11 April 2008, at age 91, in Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada.2 He was buried in Fraser Cemetery, New Westminster, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada.2
Erroll Irving Wintemute was in British Columbia Lumber Industry. Errol Wintemute:91 B.C. PHILANTHROPIST FOUNDED DELTA CEDAR PRODUCTS- Victoria- Errol Wintemute, whose 75-year career in the British Columbia lumber industry began as a teenager during the Depression, has died in the Vancouver suburb of Delta. He was 91. Mr Wintemute founded Delta Cedar Products, a lumber-manufacturing company, in 1965. He was on the job until the day before his death on April 11. Errol Irving Wintemute was born on May 11, 1916, at New Westminster B.C., where one of his childhood playmates was Raymond Burr, a cousin who would grow up to become a famous actor best known for his portrayals of the defence lawyer Perry Mason and the detective Robert T. Ironside. "We used to sleigh-ride together, had some good scraps," Mr. Wintemute said after Mr. Burr died in 1993, aged 76. They maintained their contact over the years, Mr. Wintemute making a sizable donation to a 1988 fundraising campaign for New Westminster's Royal Columbian Hospital for which Mr.Burr was the spokesman. Mr. Wintemute, an expert in Western yellow cedar, became a prominent philanthropist and civic booster in Delta. In 1995, he created a $250, 000 endowment fund to train staff of Delta Hospital. He also led a million-dollar campaign to build a clubhouse for the Boys and Girls Club. The Wintemute Club building in the neighborhood of Ladner, B.C., now provides programs for children and teenagers. He was named to the Fraser River Hall of Fame in 1999 for his contributions to the forestry industry. He received the Queen's Jubilee Medal six years ago in honour of his community work. Mr. Wintemute leaves three daughters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Irene. A tribute will be held at 2 p.m. on May 3 at the clubhouse in Ladner that now bears his name.
