Long Time Resident Passes Away

Funeral Services for Josephine M, Westover, 80, were held on Friday, May 13, at the Butman Brethen in Christ Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Starr officiatiing. Burial was in Butman Cemetery.
Josephine Cunningham was born in Sanilac County on August 18, 1868, and was married to Charles Westover in Gladwin in 1889. Mr. Westover passed away in 1927. They were residents of Gladwin County for 66 years. Mrs. Westover passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Percy Briggs, in Farminton, after three weeks illness.
Surviving are four sons, Bruce of St. Ignace, Charles of Drayton Plains, Frank of Pickford, and Joseph of Wayne; five daughters, Mrs. Blanche Briggs and Mrs. Grace Simpson, both of Farmington, Mrs. Elsie Foote of Gladwin, Mrs. Nellie Remer of Setroit, and Mrs. Neva Stuck of Saginaw; 37 grandchildren and 27 great-grand children. One daughter Bessie preceded her mother in death.

Mrs. William Westover died Jan. 22, 1929, at her home in Butman township, aged 58 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Mrs. Westover, nee Louisa E. Hager, was born Sept. 6, 1870 at Marlette, Mich., where she resided until her marriage to William Westover August 28, 1889, and then moved to Gladwin County, Butman township, where she resided until the time of her death. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Everton Wagar of Butman, and Clarence at home. She gave her heart to God a number of years ago, and was faithful to the end. She was a good wife, loving mother and kind neighbor, and will be missed by those who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband and two children, her son-in-law, mother, seven brothers, and three sisters, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the house by Elder Joseph A. Vanderveer, assisted by Elder H.P. Heisey. Text: Ephesians 2:10. Burial in Butman Cemetery.

Clara Mae Westover was born on 25 December 1890 in Butman Township, Gladwin, Michigan.1,2,3 She and Everton R. Wagar were married on 13 October 1909 in Butman, Gladwin, Michigan.4 She died on 16 November 1976, at age 85, in Saginaw, Saginaw, Michigan.2,3 She was buried in Butman Township Cemetery, Butman, Gladwin, Michigan.

Passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, 1976, at Saginaw Community Hospital after a long illness. Age 85 years. Clara Mae Westover was born in Sanilac County, Mich., Dec. 25, 1890. She resided in Butman Township, Gladwin County moving to Saginaw six years ago. She was married to Everton Wagar Oct. 13, 1909. He passed away May 22, 1969. She was a member of the Church of the Brethern in Christ and The Gleaners. Surviving are one brother, Clarence Westover, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Mathews Funeral Home in Gladwin. Rev. Melvin Stauffer will officiate with burial in Butman Cemetery in Gladwin County. Friends may call at the funeral home in Gladwin.

Biography

Percy W. Briggs was born on 8 December 1887 in Bay City, Bay, Michigan. He and Blanche Mabel Westover were married on 14 July 1909 in Butman Township, Gladwin, Michigan.1 He was married on 27 September 1967.2 He died on 11 January 1984, at age 96, in Rogers City, Presque Isle, Michigan.3 He was buried in Butman Township Cemetery, Butman Township, Gladwin, Michigan.

Percy W. Briggs, age 96, of Pineview Rest Home, Hillman, Michigan, and formerly of Gladwin died January 11, 1984 in Rogers City Hospital after a long illness. Born in Bay City on December 8, 1887. He spent his youth in Butman Township. He spent winters in lumber camps in Michigan and Canada. He then moved to Rochester, MIchigan, and worked for Parke Davis Co. After retiring Mr. Briggs moved to the farm homesteaded by the Westovers' in Butman Township. In 1982 he moved to Atlanta, Michigan, to live with his son. Mr. Briggs was married to the former Blanche Westover in 1909. She predeceased him in death in 1967. He then married Grace Sprague and she died in 1975. Surviving him is one son, Chester, of Atlanta. Memorial service from Hall Funeral Chapel in Gladwin.

Starting at the age of 14 he spent winters in Lumber Camps in Michigan and Canada, then moved to Rochester
MI and worked for the Parke Davis Co.
. When he retired he moved to the Westover Homestead in Butman Twp.

. In 1982 he moved to Atlanta MI to live with his son.
. He lived at the Pineview Rest Home before his death in Hospital.
