Killed by Blood Poisoning- Death of Horace Westover of Butman Township

Horace Westover of Butman was falling a tree for firewood Wednesday. In falling, the tree struck against a root, bounded up, and came down upon one of his feet, smashing it to a pulp. Dr. Brown of Meredith was called, and attended to the injured member. The case assumed a serious phase, and Dr. Brown decided that it would be necessary to amputate the foot, and telegraphed Dr. Suylandt to meet him at Mr. Westover's place Monday for the purpose of performing the operation. When Dr. Suylandt arrived, blood poisoning had set in, and the system was so thoroughly charged with it that it would be impossible to save the man's life, consequently the operation was dispensed with. Death occured at 3:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after Dr. Suylandt arrival.
Mr. Westover was about 50 years of age and leaves a wife and two sons. He had been a resident of Butman township six years, and during that time has been an industrious and respected citizen. He was the owner of a good farm well improved. The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. A.A. Stephens officiatiing. The deceased was a member of the Meredith I.O.O.F. Lodge, and the funeral was attended by members of the Meredith and Gladwin lodges.
