2 Funeral services were held Tueday at 2:00 p.m. from the McGregor L.D.S. church for John Booth, 88, who died Sunday after a short illness at the home of his son, Robert Booth, of Custer township, where he had made his home, Elder William Grice, of Croswell, officiated. Burial was made in Washington cemetery.
Mr. Booth was born Aug. 6th, 1853, near Applegate and has been a lifetime resident of the couny. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Booth, who came from Ireland. Mr. Booth was united in marriage to Rosephia Henry in 1878 adn to this union were born three sons and a daughter. In 1890, he moved with his family to Custer township where he pioneered in the clearing of the land. He later was married to Valeria Ardelia Dean who passed away in1933.
During his early years of life Mr. Booth worked on the farm near Applegate in the summer and in the winter worked in the lumber camp wnd when he moved to Custer township took an active post in the community helping to instruct schools and reads, besides he served his township in saved ???.also held school office for years.
In later Years, Mr. Booth took great content in relating to others in experience in the early life of the community, especially telling of the dark days. On his 83rd birthday he took his first ??? with his son Gilbert Booth, of Sandusky, which he ??? very much. ???
He is survived by four sons William Booth, of Portland, Oregon, Gilbert Booth, of Sandusky, Robert Booth of McGregor, and George Booth, of Detroit; one daughter, Mrs. Edgar Kenny of Deckerville; 20 grand children and 20 great-grandchildren. One son Howard, died in 1937.
