4 Last rites were held Monday at 2:00 pm. from the L.D. S. Church at McGregor for Howard Booth, who was electrocuted Friday, July 9th, at 4:00 p.m. in Detroit when he attempted to aid a youthful motorist in disengaging his car froma a 4500 volt wire that had fallen.
Mr. Booth, wno was connected with a patrol car from Chene police patrol, had been assigned with Capt. Skarbinski to direct traffic around the danger zone and when Mr. Booth caught hold of the door handle he was almost instantly killed, as the high tension wire had become connected with the bumper of the car that he was attempting to direct through. He died on the way to the hospital.
Howard Booth was born at McGregor, Oct 21, 1894 and was the son of John Booth, McGregor. He was married Feb. 26, 1914 to Beatrice Rich, of Bridgehampton township, and for several years had been connected with the poilce department of Detroit and at the funeral Monday the department sent a delegation of Police Officers as an honoray escort.
Mr. Booth is survived by his wife, Beatrice, two sons, John and Wayne, of Detroit, his father, John Booth, McGregor, four brothers Gilbert, Sandusky, William, Portland, Oregon, Robert and George, and one sisiter, Mrs. Edgar Kenny, McGregor, and a host of friends in this community where he was well known.
Burial was made in Washington Cemetery, and Elder David Dawker, Detroit, Officated.
Officer Booth was electrocuted as he assisted a man remove a vehicle from a live wire that had fallen during a storm. Officer Booth came in contact with the 4,300 volt wire and was killed.
Officer Booth had served with the Detroit Police Department for 11 years.
