BENZONIA - Maxine Duford, 89, of Benzonia, died March 20, 2012, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

She was born May 21, 1922, in Arcadia, the daughter of William and Veda Corey.

Maxine was the beloved wife for 68 years to Clifford Duford, who preceded her in death.

Maxine attended Putney Corners Country School, Arcadia High School, and then County Normal, and became a school teacher in Midland. After she and her husband returned to Benzie County, they raised three children. She worked for the Frankfort Garment Factory, where she also served as a union representative.

Involvement with the church was very important to Maxine. She taught Sunday School and was an active member and supporter of Son Life Wesleyan Church of Beulah.

She was a loving mother to three children, Ron (Diane), of Thompsonville, Allen (Lynne), of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Patricia (Dale) Phillips, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; and was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to her many grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by two sisters, Vivian Jean (Calvin) Duford and Karen (Ed) Betke; and a very special sister-in-law, Mazallia (Gene) Guiles.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters and brothers, Flossie, Irma, Daryl and Veryl.

Included in her family were the wonderful, caring and loving staff and residents at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Frankfort.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Son Life Wesleyan Church in Beulah, with Pastor Ken Blair officiating. Burial will be in Joyfield Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

Arrangements are by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Frankfort and Benzonia.

Russell loved camping with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and hunting. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider The Canadian Cancer Society. At the request of the family t here will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
