George N. Dennis was born in Canada, immigrated to the USA in 1898, and was naturalized as a US citizen on June 27, 1934 in Genesee County, Michigan. From the 1920 census, George declared his father and mother were born in Canada of Dutch decent. George in the 1920 census declared his trade to be carpenter and was employed by the Ice Co. They lived at 2022 Church Street, Flint.

Francis suffered with Tuberculosis and was interned at a sanitarium near Howell, Michigan. On weekends, George would ride his bicycle from home (near Linden and Miller Road) to visit Francis (a distance of about 35 miles each way on gravel roads.) While Francis was at Howell, their two daughters stayed with neighbors and Wilfred remained at home with his dad.

George is buried in Section O, lot E1/2 34, graves 3 and 4, of Sunset Hills Cemetary, near Flint Michigan.

In 1957, at the time of George's death, his brother William lived in Newbury, Ontario.

A family Bible indicates George was born in 1883. His death certificate indicates 1882.

Franciska (Frances) Rose Ruhnau was born on 30 November 1892 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.1 She and George Nobel Dennis were married on 18 May 1909 in Garfield Township, Bay County, Michigan, USA.2,1 She died on 27 December 1948, at age 56, in Flint, Genesee, Michigan.1 She was buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery (Section O, lot E 1/2 34, graves 3 &4 ), Flint, Michigan.1

Her Birth Certificate lists her name as Franciska Ruhnau and was issued in Detroit. According to the 1910 census, she had been married less then 1 year (on census day 4/22/1910), was 17 years old, had 2 born children (presumable twins, Clara and Clarence), with Clara age 6 months alive and living with them. Clara must have died prior to the 1920 census. According to the 1920 census, Frances' parents were both born in Germany.

Francis had a falling out with her parents, presumably about her marriage to George. They never spoke to one another the rest of there lives.

Francis suffered from tuberculosis and was interned at a sanitarium near Howell, Michigan . Years later, the TB spread to her kidney which was surgically removed.

Mr. Dennis will rest at Swartz-Raysin Funeral Home, 9136 Davidson Road. until noon Tuesday, then he will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Mr. Dennis was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan, June 26, 1892, and lived in Flint for 30 years and Davison the last 33 years. He was a member of Bentley Community Baptist Church, and was a carpenter for 50 years retiring in 1960. Surviving are Daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Johnston of Santa Barbara, California; step-son, James E. Young of Flint; sister, Mrs. James Clark of Rhodes, Michigan; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Eileen Doidge whom he made his home with after he became ill. Biography

Melissa Jane Mathews was born on 8 March 1854 in Canada. She and Thomas Edward Dennis were married on 12 July 1872 in Tillsonburg, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.1,2 She died on 28 August 1916, at age 62, in Flint, Genesee, Michigan.3 She was buried in Garfield Township Cemetery, Garfield Township, Bay, Michigan.3,4

Jane M. Dennis, according to the 1910 census, had ten live births and 9 living children.

Information from the 1871 Bayham Township, Elgin County, Ontario Census:

Melissa J. Mather (as spelled in the census) was a 17 year old servant living with Joseph (age 75) and Mary (age 74) Pearson. We believe Joseph and Mary Pearson were the parents of Thomas Pearson who was married to Cerinda Dennis. (Thomas and Cerinda Pearson are the next family entered in the census.) Cerinda (Dennis) was the daughter of Jacob W. Dennis and a cousin of Thomas Dennis.

The Index of Marriage Registrations of Ontario, Canada 1869-1873 Vol 22-26 lists the name as Matthews.

From records of the Jennings and McKinney (Algoe) Funeral Home, and County Death records, it is known that Jane died at home of neuralga of the heart. She was a housewife. The funeral was held at 4 P.M. on August 30, 1916, and she was transported by rail on August 31, 1916, to Garfield, Michigan for burial. She died at her residence, 2006 Church Street, in Flint, Michigan. The informant of this information was John (Dennis), son.

Melissa was living with her son Job at the time of the 1900 Michigan Census, Garfield Township, Bay County, Michigan.
