Hold Funeral Rites for George M. Bly
CRESCO-Funeral services were held Wednesday, at the Bradley funeral home for George Myron Ely, 86, who died at his home in Cresco Sunday afternoon. The Rev. George W. Turner of the Methodist church officiated, with burial at New Oregon cemetery, three miles south of Cresco. Mr. Bly was born August 4, 1855, at St. Anthony Falls, now, Minneapolis. Minn., a son of Charles S. and Julia Pepin Bly, who moved to the village of New Oregon, Howard county, Iowa, the following year. There he attended the village school which was held in various buildings and later in the abandoned Cole hotel. He was married twice, both wives having preceded him in death many years ago. He had five children by the first marriage, four of whom survive. Alvin of Austin, Minn., Leslie, Roland, and Mrs. M. E. Yarrington, all of Cresco, and 33 grandchildren. He leaves one sister, Mrs. W. A. Lucas of Dexter, Minn. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mrs W. W. Dinger were conducted Mar. 6 at Cresco, the Rev. Wm. G. Bohl, of Riceville, officiating. Burial was in the New Oregon cemetery south of
Cresco, Bertha Alice Bly was born at the Four Corners near Cresco, Iowa, June 17, 1878 and passed away Feb. 27, 1953 at Salem, Oregon. She received her education in the Cresco school and later at the M. O. Perry Normal School, after which she taught in Howard county for nearly 20 years. She joined the Methodist church in 1893. On Dec. 24, 1902 she was married to Harmon Shafer of near Lime Springs, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter, Helen, now Mrs. Sam Long of Burlington, Kansas, who survives her. Mr. Shafer passed away Feb. 8, 1916. On June 17, 1919 she married W. H. Dinger at Cresco. Iowa. In 1919 they moved to Breckenridge. Minn. Here her daughter Opal, was born, who is now Mrs. Harry Note of Medford. Oregon. Mr. Dinger passed away March 26, 1951. The following July Mrs. Dinger moved to Medford, Oregon, where she made her home with her daughter until about six weeks ago when because of falling health it was necessary for her to enter a hospital. Surviving also, in addition to her two daughters are three step-sons: Ralph Dinger, Waterloo, Iowa; Lyle Dinger, Riceville, Iowa: and Henry Dinger of Rothsay, Minn.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Tom Edwards (Ruth) of Milford, Iowa and Mrs. Ben Dahnke (Florence) of Rothsay, Minn.; 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; also 3 halfbrothers, Alvia Bly, Eugene, Ore., Leslie Bly, Mason City, Iowa, and Rollo Bly of Cresco, Iowa.

Alvia Earl Bly was born June 18, 1887 in Cresco, Iowa. He attended public schools in Cresco. Alvia Bly married Anna Lang, Nov. 1, 1909. The young couple lived in Cresco several years, then moved to Preston, Minn., and eventually to Austin. Mr. Bly worked at various occupations in Austin, including a period of employment with Geo. A. Hormel & Co. Subsequently, he moved to California, worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corp., and then he moved to Oregon where he worked as a sawmill operator. He returned to the Midwest, settling first in Mason City and finally settling in Austin about 15 years ago. He lived by himself until a year ago in October, moved to the Norstrude Nursing Home, Albert Lea, became a resident in an Austin boarding house, and finally took up residence in the Comfort Care Nursing Home in Austin. He enjoyed participating in the Party Line radio program. He was in fairly good health for his age, but Friday, Jan. 23, 1981, he had a heart attack and passed away between 3 and 4 a.m.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Alice) Spreckles, Couderay, Wis., Mrs. Douglas (Evelyn) Burk, Prineville, Ore., Mrs. Conrad (Beulah) Emery, Mrs. June Ferguson, Mrs. Wayne (Arlene) Tabor, Mrs. Emil (Maxine) Laack Sr., Austin; one son, Alvin Bly, Austin; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna and one daughter, LaVonne. Alvia Earl Bly reached an age of 93 years, 7 months, 5 days. May he rest in peace.
