3 Olive (Ollie) E. Appleby died on Dec. 10, 2011, at Coeur d'Alene Homes in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
She left us just shy of her 96th birthday.
She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Trade Lake, Wis. Her youth was lived in Wisconsin. In 1938 she married Ray Appleby and resided in Pine City, Minn. Ray was a Marine so at the end of WWII, they moved to Orr. Ray was a Minnesota state game warden and with three young children already and three more children to come, Ollie was a full-time mom. While in Orr, she actively served in every capacity for the American Legion Auxiliary and was the election judge and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She knew everyone for miles around and made friends easily so for 32 years she created a column and wrote "Put in your oar for Orr" for the local Cook News Herald paper.
Ollie lost her husband Ray when he was 49 years young. She still had six children to raise so she took a job as a rural mail carrier, serving the Nett Lake area. In 1979 she retired and moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, where she belonged to St. Marks Lutheran Church, the Hayden Lake Grandmother's Club, Christian Women's Club, the VFW Auxiliary and served as the election judge for her precinct. Ollie never met a stranger and loved a good time and was very hospitable and a truly happy person. She covered many with her love and homemade quilts. She enjoyed crafting, especially Swedish Huck Weaving, playing cards and board games, the outdoors and fishing. Her body aged and her mind slowed but her heart shared the riches of a life well spent. She told her family, "God gave you many blessings but, happiness is up to you."
She is survived by sons; daughter; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends galore.
Preceding Ollie in death was her parents, Hjalmer and Lena Sundquist; two brothers, Charles (Swede) and Marlin; her sister, Evelyn West; son-in-law, Sam Skogsbergh.
