Gladys L. Niemeier, 76 years, 5 months and 8 days old, 311 Eastridge St., Beatrice, died Tuesday, April 26, 1994. She was born November 18, 1917 at Columbus, Platte Co., Nebraska, and was a 1935 graduate of Columbus High School. She lived in Fairbury where she was a bookkeeper for the O.C. Brickell Co. from 1939 until 1944 in Columbus. She and Delbert Niemeier were married October 29, 1944 in Columbus. They lived on a farm west of Beatrice from 1946 until 1975 when they moved to Beatrice. She was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Beatrice, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of the church. She was a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and a volunteer for the Red Cross, the Lutheran Braille Workers and Reading Unlimited, and tutored at Beatrice High School and St. Paul's Elementary School. She was a past 4-H club leader and a member of the Cub Creek Homemakers Extension Club.
Survivors include; her husband of 49 years, 5 months and 29 days, Delbert; son David J. Niemeier and his wife Rosemary of Beatrice, son Robert F. Niemeier and his wife Debra, of Omaha, daughter Jeanne M. Lorenzen and her husband Richard of Lincoln, daughter Sarah A. Morris and her husband Arthur of Beatrice, five grandchildren, brother Kenneth J Mohr Sr. and his wife Luetta of Lincoln; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Hazel (Harley) Mohr.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Friday April 29, 1994 at First Trinity Lutheran Church , rural Beatrice, the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Visitation was at the Griffiths-Hovendick after 10:00 a.m. Thursday and then at the church one hour preceding services. Family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Friday in the church school. She was buried at Evergreen Home Cemetery Beatrice, Nebraska. Memorial established to KWBE Lutheran Radio Ministries, with Gerald Pohlmann and Tom Brandt in charge. Griffith-Hovendick Chapel, Beatrice.

Darrel was born on December 26, 1936, in Casper, Wyoming, to Charles Samuel and Bernice Marie (Harley) Killham. He graduated from Canon City High School in Canon City, Colorado, in 1955. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado and his Master’s Degree in engineering from Iowa State University. Darrel was united in marriage to Esther Hinz on August 29, 1965, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
Darrel worked at Collins Radio, Hydrospace, was Vice-President of Engineering at J-Tec, and Rockwell Collins. He retired in 1999. Darrel volunteered as a math tutor for the Kirkwood GED program and Linn-Mar High School students. In 2008, he was the Linn-Mar recipient of the Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award. He was a deacon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing at Crestview Acres Nursing Home, Willow Gardens Care Center, and Winslow House Care Center. Darrel loved spending time with his family, taking his wife to Donutland, doing artwork, traveling, cooking and sitting outside on his patio. He loved his wife and family. He will be dearly missed.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents. He was baptized on 31 January 1937 in Casper, Natrona Co., Wyoming, USA.
