Sheila J. (Barber) Hudson

BIG BAY - Sheila J. (Barber) Hudson, age 64, of 325 Bensinger St., Big Bay, entered eternal life Friday, January 11, 2008, at home in the comforting care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.

Sheila was born August 21, 1943, in Big Bay, a daughter of George and Evelyn Mae (Rood) Barber, and was raised in Big Bay. A 1961 graduate of Graveraet High School, she was employed for many years as a bank teller, and then worked in retail sales. She retired from Wal-Mart in 1996.

Sheila enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved watching birds, especially hummingbirds, the wildlife around her home, and growing plants. Her other hobbies and interests included doing craftwork, knitting, weaving, reading, and going to the casino. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Hudson, whom she married December 10, 1997; two sons, Scott (Angela) Anderson of Minnesota and Gary (Joani) Anderson of Hawaii; a stepdaughter, Robbin Ann Lampinen of Marquette; four stepsons, Robert Hudson Jr. of Marquette, Russell (Becky) Hudson of Negaunee, Richard Hudson of Harvey, and Ronald Hudson of Marquette; three grandchildren, Amber Anderson of Minnesota, and Kaelan and Cameron Anderson of Hawaii; three sisters, Sharon (Jack) St. Germain of Negaunee, Joyce (Frank) Hayward of Idaho, and Patsy (Bill) West of Walled Lake; a brother, Willie (Janice) Barber of Marquette; several nieces and nephews; and her special canine pal, Samantha. In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Orville Barber.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, January 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Raffensperger officiating. Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens on Friday at 11 a.m. A reception for family and friends will be held on Friday at 12 noon at 39 County Road 510, Negaunee, MI 49866. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Robert Hudson and family, P.O. Box 352, Big Bay, MI 49808. Condolences may be expressed online at www.fassbenderfuneralhome.com.
