ILA MAE FIRBY was born on 19 June 1904 in Malahide Township . After the family moved to the Abell farm, she attended the White School near the Seville Cheese Factory. After her parents moved to the Bingham place beside Floto's Cheese Factory, she went to board at McPhail's home in Aylmer and worked at a face powder factory around 1921. Ila met and married Harold Nelson in 1923. Reverend Williams married them in the parsonage in Aylmer . At first they lived in a white brick house across from the fair grounds on Sydenham, Street. In 1930 they bought seventy-.five acres on Dingle Street and Ila lived there the rest of her life. Her husband Harold was a butcher who had a shop on Talbot Street , Aylmer . They did all their own butchering after Ila's father built the slaughterhouse. Ruth Nelson was a beautiful woman inside and out and , as a daughter-in-law writing this, never heard her say an unkind word. Ila was never a really, well person physically but never complained and always faced life with a smile. She died of heart failure at an early age of 65 in 1970 and is buried in the Richmond West Cemetery #78, Richmond, Ontario, Canada. Ila and Harold had seven children.

2. Frederick Maurice Nelson,
3. Violet Mae Nelson,
4. Jean Jennette Nelson,
5. John Henery Nelson,

WILLIAM BURTON FIRBY the third son of Francis and Rebecca Firby was born in 1868 and raised on the family farm in Malahide. After he married Edith Wintermute daughter of William and Sara Jane Wintermute, William and Edith lived south of the Firby Cemetery on the West Side of the road. Around 1910 they moved to Highway #3 east of the Seville Cheese Factory and worked on shares for John Abell. About 1918 they moved to the Bingham place just east of the Firby Cemetery. When their son, Frank died in 1924 they were living on lot 35, in the North Gore of Malahide. He was quiet, hard working very likeable man. His niece, Vera Bowen Herman, recalls a story about him digging potatoes. A little neighbour girl came and sat on his basket and broke it and when he asked her why she sat on it, she replied, "You saw me. Why did you put it there?" Another niece, Florena Firby Smith, remembered that at one time he decided to keep several hives of bees. However he got very badly stung and changed his mind about keeping bees. One time Ila, his daughter, and Vera went fishing and were warned not to go in the water and of course they did but Ila told her dad that a fish had pulled her in. At one time William or Wid as he was usually called worked for Earnest Dell on the 8th concession of Malahide making cement blocks and burial vaults. He lived then in a house across the road, owned by Herb Newell. While living there, he and Edith were foster parents to Fred Tomkinson , an orphan from England. This was a close relationship for the rest of their lives. In the early 1930's, they moved in with Ila and her husband on the first farm just east of Aylmer on Dingle Street. Wid was a talented builder and he built a large barn, a pigpen, a three-bay garage arid slaughterhouse for his son-in-law who was a butcher. Earnest Dell had not paid Wid his wages when he worked for him, so when Harold Nelson got the cement blocks for the farm, buildings from Dell's factory, he paid his father-in-law instead. William and Edith lived on Dingle Street until 1938 when they bought a bungalow on Talbot Street East about two blocks from, the farm. He continued to do chores at the farm until about 1945. "Daddy Wid", as his grandchildren called him, had a stroke and died soon after on 27 March 1947 in Aylmer. Edith died in 1962. Both are buried in Richmond (Richmond Cemetary #78 , Elgin County, Ontario, Canada). Their children were an Infant Daughter died on 17 January 1898 buried in Firby Cemetery, Ila Mae Firby and Frank Lawrence Firby.

Remembering Daniel Forbes
Submitted by Duane Duff from Surrey, BC, on Sunday, December 23, 2007.
I found this obituary about a month after it was published. Danny and I were playmates when we were children. We went swimming together a number of times. Both of us liked listening to "The Aldrich Family" on the radio. We were together on the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed. I knew two of his brothers and one of his sisters. After his family moved from Corinth in the early 1940s, we had not been in contact. I send remembrances to his family.
