Melvin L. Bailey was born on December 23, 1949, in Moberly, Missouri, the son of Harold "Dean" and Lela (Minor) Bailey. He grew up in Evansdale and attended Waterloo East High School. On October 3,1970, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Ginther in Waterloo.
During his working career, Melvin worked as a truck driver, worked in maintenance, worked as a builder and owned and operated a concession wagon.
He retired in June of 2009 after 37 years of service. Melvin enjoyed traveling and construction projects.
Melvin died at the age of 63 on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Ronnie and Bobby Bailey both of Evansdale; two grandchildren; Blake Mathes and Ian Bailey; three sisters, Sheila (Dean) Cummings of Evansdale, Diane (Jeff) McConkey of Greeley, Colorado, and Brenda (Larry) Kimmerle of Winona, Minnesota; and a brother, David (Lorraine) Arbuckle of Haven, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Lela. Prior to the visitation there will be a meal at St Marks Church in Evansdale Iowa from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M.
