Maxine Garrison, 91, of Huntington, died Dec. 8, 2008, at The Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Garrison taught in the business department of the Huntington County Community School Corporation for more than 21 years, retiring in 1983. She had previously taught in the Whitley County schools for four years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Huntington, the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana State Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of Delta Pi Epsilon Honorary Business Fraternity and a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Huntington. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1934, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntington College and a master's degree from Ball State University.
She was born June 12, 1917, in Columbia City to Heber E. and Alma J. Fisher Humbarger. She married Kenneth W. Garrison on June 16, 1957, in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, J. Michael Arlington, of Bluffton, and Dr. L. David Arlington, of Eugene, OR; four daughters, Melissa J. Glaze, of Roanoke; Sylvia Ann Alfeld, of Harrison, AR; Judith Bancroft, of Columbia, MO; and Kay Lynn Robb of Syracuse; a sister, Joann Fisher, of Warren; 27 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 12, 2008, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with Rev. John Ritchie officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
