Biography

Harry Gail Aherns, Jr., was born on 24 August 1942 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. He died on 17 February 2004, at age 61.1 He was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa.2
Funeral services for Harry Aherns, 86, of Council Bluffs will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer- Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Denise Aherns officiating.

Mr. Aherns died Nov. 29 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1917, in Modale to Fred and Emma Lee Aherns. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for the Council Bluffs Street Department, retiring in 1979 after 32 years service. He was a member of VFW Post No. 737.

Mr. Aherns was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; three grandchildren; one sister and one brother.

Survivors include his daughter, Grace Traylor, and husband, Mike, of Council Bluffs; sons, Harry G. and wife, Amy, of Bellevue, Neb., Gary and wife, Denise, Teddy and Jerry and wife, Connie, all of Council Bluffs, and Steve and wife, Linda, of Omaha; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond, and wife, Pat, of Council Bluffs; and sister, Annie Miller, of Council Bluffs.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military rites at graveside, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with luncheon to follow at Crossroads Christian Church.

Obituary

Arda M. Schroder, age 92 passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20th at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs. She was born on May 23, 1923 in Council Bluffs, IA and was united in marriage to Freddie E. Schroder on August 27, 1941 in Plattsmouth, NE. They devoted their lives to farming in the Honey Creek and Underwood areas. Freddie passed away in 1993. Arda was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Honey Creek.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry L. Schroder, brother, Billy Walter, and sister, Norma Pitt.

She is survived by son, Dennis (Jean) Schroder of Beebeetown and daughter, Becky J. (Dennis) Olson of Independence, MO., six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Charlotte (LeRoy) Burbridge of Woodbine, and other in-laws, relatives, and many friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23rd at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Honey Creek with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Grange Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.

Norma J. Pitt, age 78, of Shelby, Iowa, passed away February 25, 2013, at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She was born January 4, 1935 in rural Crescent, Iowa to the late William S. and Amanda A. (Krieger) Walter.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Walter.

Norma is survived by her husband, Marion Pitt to whom she married on June 27, 1954; daughters, Debra Kelso (Steven), Linda Smith, Barbara Richards, Kathie Pitt; sisters, Arda Schroder, Charlotte Burbridge (Leroy); sister-in-law, Rose Ann Walter; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.

Visitation is Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Thursday, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment is in the Grange Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. The family will direct memorials in Norma's honor.
