Gretchen was born on September 26, 1921 and passed away on Wednesday, J anuary 18, 2017. Gretchen was a resident of Fairbury, Nebraska at the t ime of her passing. She was raised and attended school in Missouri and Council Bluffs, IA. She was married to Willis Pollock.

Gretchen A. Pollock, 95 of Grand Island passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2 017 at Gardenside Long Term Care in Fairbury. A Funeral service will be 1 :00 PM, Tuesday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Gretchen was born on Sept. 26, 1921 to Henry and Grace (Hutchinson) Judy at Hastings, NE. She was raised and attended school in Missouri and Council Bluffs, IA. Her family later moved to Grand Island. She married Willis Pollock on Sept 24, 1939 at Grand Island, NE.

She worked as a cook at various places in Grand Island. She received her certificate for Head Cook and continued to cook until her retirement. S he enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Gretchen is survived by her children, Janet Stithem of Grand Island, Larry (Jacquelyn) Pollock of Grand Island, Gretchen (Max) Ruhnke of Fairbury, and Jack (Midge) Pollock of Fairbury; brother Don (Alice) Judy of Bellevue, NE; sisters, Helen Bunde of Hastings, Mary Bremer of Sun City, A Z; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Edgar, Charles, Da le, and Gail; and 5 sisters, Charlotte and Geraldine Judy, Lucille Ahrens, Hazel Keller, Beverly Pollock; and a son-in-law, Tom Stithem.

He is survived by his spouse, Alicia; children Terry (Kelly) Blome, Tammy Clark, Troy (Julie) Judy, Todd (Tiffany) Judy, Tracy Wright, and their mother, Jan Judy; daughter Catherine (Damian) Curry; sisters Helen Bunde and Mary (Bernie) Bremer; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Harry Aherns, 86, of Council Bluffs will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer- Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Denise Aherns officiating.

Mr. Aherns died Nov. 29 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1917, in Modale to Fred and Emma Lee Aherns. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for the Council Bluffs Street Department, retiring in 1979 after 32 years service. He was a member of VFW Post No. 737.

Mr. Aherns was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; three grandchildren; one sister and one brother.

Survivors include his daughter, Grace Traylor, and husband, Mike, of Council Bluffs; sons, Harry G. and wife, Amy, of Bellevue, Neb., Gary and wife, Denise, Teddy and Jerry and wife, Connie, all of Council Bluffs, and Steve and wife, Linda, of Omaha; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond, and wife, Pat, of Council Bluffs; and sister, Annie Miller, of Council Bluffs.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military rites at graveside, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with luncheon to follow at Crossroads Christian Church.

Gary was born August 1, 1943, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to the late Harry and Lucille (Judy) Aherns. He graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1961 and earned double associate degrees while in the Air Force. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. After his discharge, Gary had a dual career, serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserve (tech sergeant) for 26 years and driving for ABF Freight System for 30 years, retiring in 1998. That same year, Gary married Denise Howard. Gary was a member of Refuge Bible Church and the Nifty Fifties Car Club. He also volunteered for Good News Jail and Prison Ministry.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by infant daughter, Patricia; son, Harry Aherns; brother, Harry Aherns; and nephew, Justin Williams.

Gary is survived by his wife of 15 years, Denise Aherns, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Denise Aherns, of Treynor, Iowa, Michelle Aherns, of Council Bluffs, Sheri (Dave) Smith, of Crescent, Iowa; sons, Gary (Dawn) Aherns, Jr., Brian Aherns, Jim Aherns, all of Council Bluffs, Jeff (Nancy) Peterson, of Omaha; 21 grandchildren; sister, Grace (Mike) Traylor of Council Bluffs; brothers, Teddy (Laura) Aherns, Jerry (Connie) Aherns, all of Council Bluffs, Steve (Linda) Aherns, of Elkhorn, Neb.; many nieces and nephews.
