Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home for Gabriel R. Gonzalez, 64, Topeka, who died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at a Kansas City, Mo. , hospital where he was re-admitted Sept. 22. He had leukemia.

He was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Topeka to Juan P. and Juana Reyes Gonzales. He worked at the Santa Fe Railway shops and later at the Veterans Medical Center in Topeka 17 years before he retired.

He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army's 11th Airborne during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Expert M-1 Medal, National Defense Medal and Parachute Badge.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Urban Chapter of the American GI Forum.

He married Cenaida Barranco Oct. 6, 1960, in Topeka. They were divorced.

Survivors include a companion, June Passmore, at home; a son, Gabriel R. Gonzalez Jr., Topeka; daughters, Margaret M. Brown, Rosemary Gonzalez and Gabriella R. Gonzalez, all in Topeka; brothers, Leo R. Gonzales, Salvador R. Ortiz, Viviano R. Gonzales, Felix R. Gonzales and Alfonso R. Gonzales, all in Topeka; sisters, Felisa Chavez, Dallas, and Rachel Root, Topeka; and seven grandchildren.

Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside services at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Gonzalez will lie in state after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a scriptural rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Contributions may be made to the Gabriel R. Gonzalez Memorial Fund yet to be designated and sent in care of the funeral home.

Harley G. Hudson was born on 10 April 1917 in Illinois. He and Norma Lucille were married on 21 April 1941. He died on 20 June 2007, at age 90, in Hot Springs National Park, Garland, Arkansas.
