Biography

Stanley James Daily was born on 12 April 1935 in Ventura County, California. He died on 25 March 2016, at age 80, in Camarillo, Ventura, California. He was buried in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo, Ventura, California.
Stanley James Daily was a Mayor of Camarilllo. Hon. Stanley James Daily
Stanley James Daily was taken by our Lord on March 25, 2016.

Stan was from the pioneer Daily family in the Camarillo area. More than being from a historic family, Stan Daily has made his own history in Camarillo. As one of the first City Councilmen of the City of Camarillo, his six terms as Mayor of Camarillo between 1964 and 1998 are a Camarillo record. As one of the Founding Fathers of the City of Camarillo, the title of "Mayor Emeritus", originally bestowed upon him by the press, was officially bestowed upon him for the first time in the history of Camarillo by the City Council of the City of Camarillo in 2003. Mayor Daily's extraordinary community service has also made him a part of Camarillo's history.

Stan had a great many positive characteristics, and several need to be mentioned here. He loved Camarillo with a passion. He seemed to "know everyone in town", and always enjoyed talking to everyone. And when he talked to you, YOU WERE his center of attention. Likewise, he had a pleasant personality, with always a smile and something positive to say to everyone. Yet he was never short on making decisions when they had to be made for "his" Camarillo. However, first in everything that Stan did was his love for his wife, sons, and family. When heavy decisions had to be made, family always came first. Even though he was highly involved in the community, he was always there for them. He was an active member of the Camarillo United Methodist Church in Camarillo since 1960, having held numerous leadership positions at the church. In 2012, Stan became active in the Gideons International, and was elected Vice President of the Camarillo Camp that same year.

Mayor Daily served on some 70 boards, committees, commissions, foundations and associations in the greater Camarillo community for over 50 years. To name a few of these, he was an active member of the following boards: United Way of Ventura County, Navy League of the United States, Channel Islands and Ventura County Chapters, Friends of the Camarillo Li -brary, Ventura County Retired Teachers Scholarship Foundation, Noontime Optimist Club of Camarillo, Director of the Port Hueneme Boys and Girls Club for many years during the 80's and early 90's, Director and multitime President of the Pleasant Valley Historical Society and Museum (continually from 1964-present). In 2011 he was made an Honorary Rotarian in the Camarillo Rotary Club.

He served as an elected Harbor Commissioner, serving numerous times as President, for some 18 years on the Oxnard Harbor District, Port of Hueneme (1977-1995). He is Past President and "Lifetime Member" of the Pacific Coast Association of Port Authorities (PCAPA), and International Organization of all of the west coast port authorities of Canada, the United States including Hawaii and Guam, and Mexico.

Stan Daily has also served on numerous governmental bodies within Ventura County over the years. He served as a Charter member of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) 1965-1998, not only representing his own Camarillo, but several Cities of the County of Ventura on that agency for many years.

His involvement was extra-ordinary, as indicated by the following. He was both an Alternate and Commissioner of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) 1970-1976; a Founding Director of the Ventura County Association of Governments (VCAG) (1970-1976); A Founding Director of the Ventura County Regional Sanitary District (VCRSD) for many years; a Founding Director and later Chairman of the Ventura County Organization of Governments (VCOG), 1991 until 1998; Ventura County Waste Commissioner ( 1994-1998); and as a Director of the Camarillo Sanitary District for over twenty years between 1967-1998, to name but a few.

Upon retiring from the Camarillo City Council in 1998, the Camarillo Chamber bestowed the title of "Lifetime" member upon Mr. Daily, and he has served on the Board since 1999, being its Chairman in 2003-2004. He has been active in many of the chamber committees, including Governmental Relations, Tourism, Economic Development, Education, and CSUCI Connection. He was noted as chairing the task force which re-energized the "business retention and expansion" program of the Chamber, and created a new community "Vision" for Camarillo to 2025.

In 2009, Mayor Daily was placed permanently on the Chamber Board and Executive Committee as "Special Consultant to the Board of Directors" by t he Chamber.

After marrying Elizabeth Ann Daily in 1956, Stan graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1957. Immediately after graduation he entered the service as a Distinguished Military Graduate, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant, Regular Army Officer, in The United States Army. He then served his country as a Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, and Battle Group Motor Officer in the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division attaining the rank o f Captain.

Upon leaving the Army in 1960, Mr. Daily went back to UCSB to do his graduate work, and then chose as his career the teaching field. He started his lifelong history teaching career at Hueneme High School in 1961, becoming Chairman of the History Department in 1974, retiring from the f ield of education in 1995. During his entire teaching career he was ASB Advisor and Director of Student Activities at the School.

Stan Daily was also named as the Grand Marshall of the Fiesta Parade of 1984 and Grand Marshall of Camarillo's 25th Anniversary Fiesta Parade of 1989. He also chaired the City Bi-Centennial Constitution Park Committee that same year, which brought the park to its final stage of completion.

He was named Outstanding Optimist by the Noontime Optimist Club of Camarillo in 2002-2003, and Outstanding Volunteer by the Rotary Club of Camarillo in 2003. In 2010 Stan was made an Honorary Rotarian which has been renewed each year.

In 2012, as a 1953 graduate of Oxnard High School, Stan was inducted in to the Oxnard High School "Hall of Fame" for his numerous contributions t o the greater community of our Nation. In 2013, he was honored with an outstanding Lifetime Achievement award by the Camarillo Chabad.

On March 28th, 2014, Stan was honored at the Top Ten Chamber of Camaril lo Community Awards Dinner by creating a new Award, to be presented per petually in his honor, named "The Stan Daily Lifetime Achievement Award ", with Mayor Daily being the first recipient.

In 1976 and 1998 he received U. S. Congressional Commendations and Spec ial Recognition Awards by the Congress of the U. S., and was placed in T he Congressional Record of the House of Representatives as a "Special T ribute to Stanley J.
