Charles C. Wintermute, 80, general sales manager for Pendleton Woolen Mills and resident of Portland for 75 years, died Friday at his home, at 5387 S.W. Humphrey Blvd. He had been ill since suffering a stroke four years ago.
Mr. Wintermute was born in Peoria, Ill. He first worked in Portland as the operator of a horse drawn trolley. He then joined the Willamette Tent and Awning Co., which later became Hirsch-Weis Manufacturing Co., leaving there as sales manager after 20 years. He has been general sales manager for Pendleton Woolen Mills since 1926. Mr. Wintermute was a char- ter member of the Portland Golf Club, and a member of several civic or ganizations, including the Portland Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by two sons, Charles R. Wintermute, Portland and Robert L . Wintermute, Lake Oswego, and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at J.P. Finley and Son. Committal will be private at Portland Memorial. The family requested rememberances be in the form of a contribution to the Oregon Heart Association.
