4 ROCHESTER -- A memorial service for the Rev. Marilyn A. Butler will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. The Rev. John Darlington will officiate.
Rev. Butler, 83, of Rochester, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2007) at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth.
Marilyn Ann Fromm was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Cerro Gordo, Iowa. She was a graduate of Mason City (Iowa) High School and received degrees from the University of Iowa and Columbia University. She also studied at theological schools, including Union in New York City and Illif in Denver. She married the Rev. Charles Owen Butler on May 29, 1954, in Plymouth, Iowa.
The Rev. Butler taught school in Zearing and Plymouth, both in Iowa, was a Christian educator in Columbus, Ohio, and served as a missionary in Cuba and Panama. She and her husband served churches throughout Iowa, as well as in Alabama. She was ordained in June 1986 at the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In retirement she and her husband moved to Rochester, where she worked as a substitute teacher in area schools and was active in the ministries at Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, John R. (Barbara Platt) of Silver Spring, Md.; two daughters, Anne E. Butler of Pflugerville, Texas, and Beverly C. Butler of Lehman, Pa.; two granddaughters; a brother, John R. (Thelma) Fromm of Prescott, Ariz.; and a sister, Geraldine G. (Dean) Schwarz of Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call an hour before the service at the church, as well as after the service.
