Ronald John “Jack” Gubin was born on July 19, 1934 to Frank and Mary (Snover) Gubin in Aberdeen. His family lived on a farm near Stratford and later moved to a farm near Bath where Jack graduated from Bath High School in 1952.
After high school, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. After returning from Korea, he joined his brother, Bill, and his mother on the farm they purchased near Stratford.
On Nov. 4, 1961 Jack married Marjorie Sharon Howell in Aberdeen, S.D. In 1964, Jack and Marge moved to the farm near Stratford that they would call home for the next 43 years until they moved to Aberdeen in 2007.
Jack was a lifelong farmer and a huge proponent of rural business and the Cooperative system. Jack loved the Stratford Community and was a part of many local organizations there including East Rondell Township, First Presbyterian Church and the Oakwood Cemetery Board. Some of the organizations Jack had the most pride serving on were the American Legion of Stratford, an organization from which he recently received a plaque for 50 years of service and the South Dakota Wheat Growers, where Jack served on their Board of Directors for 21 years, 11 years of which he served as the board president.
Toward the end of his farming career and into his retirement, Jack became very active in the Brown County Old Time Tractor Pullers Association. He also attended coffee in Stratford following his move to Aberdeen, which continued to be the highlight of his day. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.
