Biography

John Camp was born on 22 June 1868 in Keyser's Ridge, Garrett, Maryland.1,2,3 He and Amanda R. Johnson were married on 19 September 1891 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.1,2,4 He died on 23 June 1942, at age 74, in Bruceton Mills, Preston, West Virginia.1 He was buried on 24 June 1942 in Salisbury IOOF Cemetery, Salisbury, Somerset, Pennsylvania.5
John Camp was a Laborer.6 John Camp, whose death was mentioned in The Republican, last week, when complete details of his funeral were not yet available, died at the age of 74 years, five months and 20 days. He was born and reared at Keyser's Ridge, Garrett County, Md., and was a son of Peter and Barbara (Vought) Camp.

For a number of years preceding his death he resided at West Salisbury, Pa., and was well and favorably known in Salisbury and vicinity. However, during the last year of his life, he was at home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George G. Engle, at Bruceton Mills, W.Va., where he was well cared for. He was found dead in his bed, Monday morning of last week. He suffered severely at intervals for many years, from asthma, and at times also had heart trouble. In all probability it was a heart attack that caused his death.

Mr. Camp was preceded in death by his wife five years ago. He is survived by two daughters and one son, namely, Clara, wife of George G. Engle, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; Nellie, wife of Jonas Smith, Swissvale, Pa., and William, of Trafford, Pa. Surviving also are one sister and one brother, Miss Annie Camp of Salisbury, Wilson Camp of Keyser's Ridge, Md., and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday of last week at 2:00 p.m., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George G. Engle, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., by Rev. S.D. Sigler of Salisbury. The body was taken to Salisbury by a West Virginia mortician, and interred in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas.
