Elizabeth (Betty) Robins was born on 26 May 1894 in Plymouth, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.2,3,4 She died on 3 November 1980, at age 86, in Montrose, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.2,3 She was buried in Old Brooklyn Cemetery, Brooklyn, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth (Betty) Robins was adopted in Ward.1 Mrs. Betty R. Carlson, Brooklyn, Susquehanna County correspondent for The Tribune, died Monday morning in Asa Park Manor Nursing Home, Montrose. She was 86.

Born in Pittston, Mrs. Carlson was believed to be the oldest newspaper correspondent in Pennsylvania. Despite ill health she remained active in her position, calling in her last story to The Tribune a week ago. she served as correspondent for more than 15 years.

She came to Susquehanna County in 1944 with her husband, the late Rudolph F. Carlson, who died in 1955, from South Ozone Park, Long Island. A retired nurse, having competed training in 1919 from Children's Homeophatic Hospital, Philadelphia, she received additional training at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a private duty nurse in the Brooklyn, Pa., area and also served as Susquehanna County correspondent for the Binghamton Sun-Bulletin.

She was an active member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church and an honoray member of the board of directors of the American Red Cross, a member of the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Mental Health and Mental Retardation Society and the Humane Society.

Along with having two sons of her own, Mrs. Carlson was also a foster mother to four children from New York. Two girls from a Brooklyn, N.Y. orphanage and two boys from a New York City broken home were taken in and raised by Mr. and Mrs. Carlson.

Her two sons that survive are Rev. Paul R. Carlson, Scranton, Donald F. Carlson, White Plains, N.Y. Also surviving are two grandsons, Dr. Paul R. Carlson, Fort Pierce, Fla., Timothy Eric Carlson, Elizabeth City, N.C.; two brothers, Howard Robins, Lima, Ohio. Walter Robins, Orlando, Fla.

Rev. Paul Carlson is director of the local Congregations in Christian Mission.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. from Brooklyn United Methodist Church. Interment, West Side Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Friends may call at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church St., Montrose, Wednesday after 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society or Brooklyn United Methodist Church.

Obituary

Jean Lewis Moore, 90, of RR Olyphant, died Thursday at the Laurels Health and Rehab, Peckville. She was the wife of Leon E. Moore, who died Sept. 25, 1993. *

Born in Peckville, daughter of the late Irving and Alice Parsons Lewis of Keystone Avenue, Peckville, she was a former member of Peckville Presbyterian Church and a 1936 graduate of Blakley High School. She was also a 1940 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

During World War II, Jean worked for Baldwin Locomotives, manufacturing heavy artillery. She later worked for Bell Telephone. She and her husband owned and operated Valley Forge Motor Court and later opened and ran the Cheese Shop in Scranton.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Harth and husband, Joseph, Emmaus; a son, Douglas L. Moore, RR Olyphant; two brothers, Richard Lewis, Hope, British Colombia, Canada; and Robert Lewis, Trout Lake, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Friedricks, Jonathan Moore, Stephanie and David Harth and Sara and Melissa Moore; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville. Arrangements, Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, Peckville.
