Imogene W. “Imy” Saums, 96, of Columbus, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her children.

Born in Pinkstaff, Illinois, July 15, 1919, Imy was the daughter of Gilbert W. and Hester Alice Wells Waldrop. She married Clyde H. Saums April 10, 1942, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He preceded her in death March 11, 2004.

Imy is survived by her loving children, Joyce K. (J.D.) Griffin of San Jose, California, Charles G. Saums of Columbus and Debra J. (James) Snyder of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Susan (Michael) Frounfelter of Santee, California, Christian (Amanda) Saums of Boise, Idaho, Ryan (Kimberly) Snyder of Charleston, South Carolina, and Bradford (Alison) Snyder of Greensboro, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Coadie, Laney and Grace Snyder and Cydney and Carson Saums.

Over her lifetime, Imy was a primary school teacher and a substitute for special education classes. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbus and was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.

There will be no calling hours or service for Imy. In keeping with her wishes, cremation is planned with private inurnment in the columbarium at First Presbyterian Church.

John Robert Gognat, Sr., was a Meat Cutter- Winn-Dixie.3 U.S. Army- Korea. GOGNAT, JOHN ROBERT SR., 80, of Louisville, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Masonic Homes of KY.

He retired after 43 years as a meat cutter for the old Winn-Dixie Supermarket. He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Lewis Parkland Masonic Lodge, Sunset Lodge #915, Kosair Shrine and Sr. Demolay and was a disabled American Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence G. Gognat Sr. and Lucy Saums Gognat; brother, Joseph Gognat and sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Marie Furman.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Jacobs Gognat; son, John R. Gognat Jr. (Susan); daughter, Patty Skawinski (Larry); grandchildren, Rob Skawinski (Stacie), Tracy Conder (Chris), Sherry Hildebrand (Greg) and Beth Raymond (Joe); great-grandchildren, Cory, Payton, Shaun, Jason, Baylie, Madyson, Noelle, Mackenzie and Tyler and brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Bohannon, Lawrence Gognat Jr., William Gognat and Emma Mortenson.

His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Fourth Presbyterian Church 3016 Preston Hwy. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Friday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home 2723 Preston Hwy. and after 9 a.m. Saturday at church.
