Lawrence Co News, 22 Apr 1948: Aged Man Dies at His Rural Home. - The funeral service for Oristus W. Saums, 90, was held at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church Friday afternoon with the Rev. Mr. Lamper in charge.

Burial was in the Zion cemetery. Mr. Saums, a retired farmer, died at his home south of Bridgeport, Wednesday afternoon.

He was born in Sheaton, Pa., on Sept. 6, 1857, the son of Sidney and Rose Ann Dull Saums.

Surviving are three daughters and one son. They are Mrs. John W. Moore of Bridgeport Route 1, Mrs. Harvey Brunson, Lawrenceville Route 1, Mrs. J. T. Evans of Kingston, Pa., and Carl B. Saums of Bridgeport. There are 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Zion Cemetery.

Obituary of Mary Saums

Mrs. Mary Saums, known by her friends and neighbors as Aunt Mollie, passed away at her home south of Lawrenceville about 6:30 Tuesday morning (1 Sep 1936).

Her death was sudden and unexpected. She arose at the usual time Tuesday morning, but in a short time lay down again, complaining not feeling well, and did not help with the early morning work as was her custom. The doctor was summoned and relatives were notified of her illness, but before the physician arrived she had passed away. Her death was due to neuralgia of the heart.

Mrs. Saums would have been 77 years old on October 31.

Mrs. Saums was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Buchanan. She was one of the oldest members of the Pisgah Presbyterian church, and was faithful in all the active duties of the church, always attending Sunday school and church services as long as able to do so.

Surviving are the husband, O. W. Saums, three daughters, Mrs. John Moore, of south of Bridgeport, Mrs. Harvey Brunson, south of Lawrenceville, and Mrs. Jack Evans, of Wilkesbarre, PA; one son, Carl Saums, of Xenia; one sister, Mrs. Robert Gillespie, of Pisgah, and one brother, Lawrence Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Pisgah church. Burial will be at Zion.
