1 Arnold Richard Cassiday, 73, of Grover Beach, Calif., was born in Flint, Michigan on Sunday, June 19, 1938 to Lloyd Francis Cassiday and Dolores (Snover) Cassiday, and passed away quietly from congestive heart failure on Monday, December 19, 2011.
He trained as a young man to become an ironworker, like his father before him, and worked in and around major Michigan cities.
Arnold married and raised five children and in the late 70s, Arnold moved to California to "follow the iron" after a divorce and the relocation of his parents to Victorville, CA.
He was a proud member of Ironworkers Union Local No. 433 and Arnold on structural jobs in the Los Angeles and Mojave areas, as well as Diablo Canyon and "Slick Six," a space shuttle site at Vandenburg Air Force Base.
While Arnold was working on the Central Coast, he met his wonderful second wife, Mary, in 1983 and retired from ironwork in 1993.
Arnold had a big heart and was willing to help anyone. He helped with the upkeep, put up the Christmas lights for his apartment complex every year and won a Grover Beach Beautification award from the mayor.
Until Mary's death in 2009, Arnold and Mary spent may happy times with friends and family, traveling, visiting relatives in Victorville, camp outs at the lake and Barbecues, those trips to do "a little" gambling, and tending to the famous summer tomato crops.
Mr. Cassiday is survived by his mother, Dolores (Snover) Cassiday, brother, Charles Leonard Cassiday (Coralee), children, Gary, Brian, Casey, Tina and Veronica, stepchildren, Lynette Osgood (Clint) and Patty Manion (Daniel).
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Francis Cassiday, sister, Jodee, stepson, Robert, and beloved wife, Mary Cassidy.
Arnold has been cremated and buried next to his beloved wife, Mary, at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
