Long Illnes (sic) Terminates in Death of Sycamore Resident
David Wade Curlis, 58, passed away at his home at Sycamore at 6 o'clock Thursday morning. His death followed an illness of about twenty years, from a paralytic condition.
Mr. Curlis was a lifelong resident of Wyandot county, having been born on April 27, 1886, the son of the late James L. and Sarah (Walton) Curlis. He was united in marriage with Clara Montz, October 12, 1909. She survives with the following children: Mrs. Clarence Von Blon, Vincent M. and Wayne J. Curlis, all of south of Sycamore; Mrs. Edgar Wolford, Sycamore, and Miss Ida Mae Curlis at home. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, his step-mother, Mrs. Daisy Curlis of Pasadena, Calif., two brothers, Dodge and Paul Curlis of near Sycamore, and a sister; Mrs. Paul Sweger of Lima.
Mr. Curlis had been living in Sycamore about ten days, he and his wife and daughter having moved there from the farm on which he was born, south of Sycamore. He was a member of the Sycamore Methodist church, and of the Progressive class of the Sunday school.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the E. W. Moore funeral home at Sycamore, in charge of a former pastor, Rev. J. J. Adams of Idalia. Interment will be made in Pleasant Ridge cemetery west of Sycamore.

SYCAMORE - Clara May Curlis, 92, 335 Greenfield St., Tiffin, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at Riverfront Manor Nursing Home, near Tiffin.
She was born July 18, 1886, in Seneca County, to David and Ida Mae (Bare) Montz. She married David Wade Curlis on Oct. 12, 1909, and he died Aug. 31, 1944.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Maxine) Wolford, Sycamore; Mrs. Stanley (Ida Mae) Smith, Tiffin; a son, Wayne, Naples, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Heck, Shelby and Mrs. Edna Grandstaff, McConnellsville; . A daughter and a son are deceased.
Mrs. Curlis was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sycamore.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home, the Rev. Orion Aubihl officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, west of Sycamore.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Death Follows Extended Illness: Rites Set For Monday
Mrs. Dorothy L. Von Blon, 52, South Main Street, Sycamore, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Friday in her home. She had been bedfast six years.
Born August 26, 1910 in Tymochtee Township, Wyandot County, she was the daughter of David W. and Clara (Montz) Curlis. Her mother survives and resides in Tiffin. She married Clarence E. Von Blon April 25, 1937 and he survives.
Also surviving are sons, Pvt. Ronald E. Von Blon with the U.S. Army in Ft. Knox, Kentucky; Lawrence W., at home; brother, Wayne, Sycamore; sisters, Mrs. Edgar Wolford, Sycamore, and Mrs. Stanley Smith of Tiffin. A brother is deceased.
Mrs. Von Blon, a lifelong resident of the Sycamore area, was a member of the Sycamore Methodist Church, its Win One Sunday School Class and Eden Grange.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore with the Rev. Richard Crabbs officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

He was born July 8, 1909, in Smithville, Ohio, to the late William E. and Ethel E. Hall Von Blon.

Surviving are sons, Ron (Judy) Von Blon of Tiffin and Larry (Jean) Von Blon of Bellville; four grandchildren, Ted, Eric, Sarah and Bradley Von Blon; sister, Mrs. Garland Hall of Sycamore.

He was preceded in death on Sept. 7, 1962 by his first wife, Dorothy L. Curtis, whom he married April 25, 1937; his second wife, Helen Landis Hufford, on Feb. 13, 1987, whom he married July 4,1963; and a brother, Walter A. Von Blon.

He was a retired sextant of Pleasant View Cemetery and Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Sycamore and a retired grinder operator at National Machinery in Tiffin.

He was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church; former member of K of P Lodge, Sycamore; member of Mohawk Sixty-Plus Club; member of Mohawk Historical Society; and charter member and last surviving member of Pop Corfman Graveliers.

He loved to play music and also liked to play the fiddle.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk Sixty-Plus Club or Mohawk Historical Society.

Formerly of Carey and Naples, Fla., Mr. Curlis died Tuesday morning in Indian trail Nursing Home, Carey, where he had resided for 10 months. He had been in failing health for eight years.
He was born in Sycamore on Feb. 25, 1914, to Wade and Clara (Montz) Curlis. On April 5, 1936, he married Betty VanGundia, who died June 265, 1968. On July 3, 1970, he married Madeline Combs, who lives in Naples, Fla.
Also surviving are two sons, J. Van of Dola and WIlliam of Forest; a daughter, Mrs. Daryl (Connie) Campbell, Tiffin; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Edgar (Maxine) Wolford, Sycamore; and Mrs. Stanley IIda Mae) Smith, Tiffin. A sister, Dorothy VonBlon, and a brother, Vincent, are deceased.
A retired cashier with First National Bank in Sycamore, Mr. Curlis was formerly vice president of Commercial Savings Bank, Upper Sandusky. He was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and Enterprise Lodge 579 F&AM.
Friends may call this afternoon and evening at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, and one hour before the funeral at the church.

Born in Sycamore on May 17, 1916, she was a daughter of D. Wade and Clara (Montz) Curlis. On Aug. 20, 1938, she married Edgar Wolford, who died Jan. 6, 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Charles of Saline and Steven of Tecumseh, Mich.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Mae Smith, Tiffin. Preceding her in death were a son, Richard; a brother, Vincent Curlis; and a sister, Dorothy Von Blon.
Mrs. Wolford retired as a sales clerk for Ames Department Store in Sycamore. Memberships included Sycamore United Methodist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and Sycamore Bridge Club. She was a former Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and UMW treasurer. She was a 1934 graduate of Sycamore High School.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sycamore UMC, the Rev, Van Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.
Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Sycamore UMC, Mohawk Community Library or a charity of the donor's choice.

SYCAMORE -- Edgar T. Wolford, 83, of 307 E. Seventh St., Sycamore, died suddenly and unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1993, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Sycamore on Oct. 29, 1909, to Charles and Lottie (Tooley) Wolford. On Aug. 20, 1938, he married Maxine Curlis, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles, Saline, Mich.; and Steven, Britton, Mich.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Dirmeyer; Upper Sandusky. Preceding him in death were a son, Richard; and three sisters.
Mr. Wolford spent 25 years as a civil service firefighter at Marion Engineer Depot and was the oldest living member of the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked for many years for Moore Funeral Home and for Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore. He was a 40-year member of Enterprise Lodge 579, Free and Accepted Masons, and was of the Protestant faith.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Walton-Moore Funeral Home, the Rev. Lon McSherley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8:45. Memorials may be made to the Sycamore Emergency Medical Service.

Surviving are two sons, Donald L. and Jeff Smith, both of Tiffin; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Wayne Curlis and two sisters, Maxine Wolford and Dorothy VonBolon (sic: VonBlon).
Mrs. Smith, the owner of Heritage/Gay Lanes, was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Tiffin.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today, Aug 26, 2003, in Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Hofmann officiating.
There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys L. Curlis-Magers, of Bucyrus, died early Wednesday morning at her home.

Born in Upper Sandusky to the late Oscar Cleveland and Alice Mae (Huffman) Hannum, Gladys graduated from Upper Sandusky High School and married Vincent Curlis in 1934. Vincent preceded her in death July 11, 1955. Gladys moved to Bucyrus in 1971 when she married Burdell Magers. Burdell preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1995.
Gladys worked for G.E. in Tiffin until her retirement. She enjoyed the companionship of her dog "Fred" and wood carving at the Council on Aging in recent years.

She was a member of St. John's U.C.C.; Order of the Eastern Star No. 3 of which she was past worthy matron; and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine.

Gladys is survived by children, Sue (Richard) Brown and David L. "Tim" (Deborah) Curlis of Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren, Tim (Andrea) Brown, Eric (Tonia) Brown, Bryan (Barbara) Curlis and Amy (Steve) Kozel; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Gladys is preceded in death by her brother, Emory C. Hannum.

At Gladys' request, no public visitation will be held. She will be buried between her husbands after a private graveside service on Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. The Rev. John Miller will officiate. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. John's U.C.C. Elevator Fund through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus
