Lucille L. Egolf, 95, of Columbia City, died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City.
Born in Columbia Township, Whitley County, she was a daughter of Benjamin Ernest and Nellie Eve (Jagger) Hively. A lifetime Whitley County resident, she was raised in Columbia Township. She attended Hoop Elementary School, Thorncreek Township and Columbia City High School, graduating with the Class of 1929.
On April 2, 1933, she married Everett Edward Egolf in Collins. They moved to their Columbia City home in 1940. He died May 4, 1988.
Retiring in 1976, she worked 35 years as a seamstress for the Blue Bell Inc., making blue jeans. In her spare time she was an avid quilter and loved flowers and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Ronald D. (Phyllis) Egolf of Columbia City; two daughters, Carolyn (Leon) Burrey of Roanoke and Pamalyn (Donald) Endsley of Warren; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodger Lee Egolf, who was killed in Viet Nam in 1966; and a sister, Beatrice Hively Moog.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Martin, First Church of God associate pastor, officiating. Burial is at South Park Annex, Columbia City.

Battery F, 2nd Battalion, 12 Marines, 3rd MARDIV (Rein) FMF- US Marine Corps- 21 Apr 1964.¹ Rodger the son of Everett E. Egolf and Lucille L. Egolf, dear brother of Ronald Egolf, Carolyn and Pamalyn Egolf of Columbia City Indiana enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 21 1964 in Indianapolis IN. In Vietam he was assigned to and served with Battery F, 2d Battalion, 12 Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of February the 2d Battalion provided artillery support for the 9th Marines who were under the operational control of the III Marine Amphibious Force in Quang Nam Province.

On February 23, during a patrol in the vicinity of DaNang PFC Rodger Egolf was killed in action from the injuries he sustained by a hostile explosive device.

Ronald Dean Egolf was born on 31 May 1936 in Washington Township, Whitley, Indiana.² He and Phyllis Jean Smith were married on 4 February 1966 in Columbia, Whitley, Indiana.^2,3 He died on 29 November 2020, at age 84, in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.² He was buried in South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City, Whitley, Indiana.²

US Marine Corps- 1958/ US Air Force- 1961.¹ Ronald Dean Egolf was a Policeman-Columbia City Police Department /Whitley County Sheriff's Deputy.¹ Ronald D. Egolf, age 84, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 2:50 pm on Sunday November 29, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born on May 31, 1936 in Washington Township, he was the son of Everett and Lucille (Hively) Egolf.

Ronald attended Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. He then worked at Weatherhead before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corp until 1958. Following that he served in U. S. Air Force until 1961. On February 4, 1966 Ronald married Phyllis Smith in Columbia City.

Ronald worked for Blue Bell and LML Engineering prior to joining the Columbia City Police Department in 1964. After his retirement in 1984 he worked for Northeastern REMC for 12 years. Finally he served as a Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy from 2000-2011.

He was a member of American Legion Post #98, Leatherneck Coffee Club, and Whitley County Historical Society.

Survivors include his loving wife Phyllis Egolf of Columbia City; children Douglas Egolf of Columbia City, Dennis (Tammy) Egolf of Fort Wayne; step-children David (Cathy) Gardner and Diane (Dennis) Sheets, both of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Burrey of Columbia City and Pamalyn (Donald) Endsley of Warren.

Leon enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, wood working, and raising rabbits. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Burrey; children, Paul (Cindy) Burrey, Cindi (Bill) Richhart and Douglas (Lois) Burrey; stepdaughter, Sherry Morgan; grandchildren, Jillian (Mike) DePew, Julie (Scott) Boyd, Jason Crismore, Jennifer Hobrock, and Erin Morgan; great-grandchildren, Trevor Boyd, Alec Boyd and Lylla Lackey; and sister, Arlene Henry. Phyllis attended Jefferson Center High School and graduated with the Class of 1951. On February 4, 1966 she married Ronald Egolf in Columbia City.

Phyllis worked at Lincoln Life, Sears, North Line Street Marathon, and also sold Avon products. She enjoyed collecting giraffes, baking, painting, and puzzling. Phyllis also spent time with her family and watching nature, especially butterflies and hummingbirds.

Survivors include her children David (Cathy) Gardner, Diane (Dennis) Sheets, and Douglas Egolf all of Columbia City, and Dennis (Tammy) Egolf of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother Lloyd Dale Smith of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald Egolf, sisters Dorothy Waldrop and Mildred Crandal, and brother Earl Smith.

Death of Isaac Cochenour
Isaac Cochenour, residing in Eden township, died at his residence, on Saturday night, after an illness of about two weeks. Deceased was a man of extraordinary constitution, enjoyed excellent health, was an excellent citizen, and his death, in the very prime of life, is a great loss to the community and deplored by all who knew him. Had he had lived till the 12th inst,. he would have been 34 years of age. His wife died a few years ago, and now an only child, a ten year old daughter, remains to mourn the loss of both father and mother. The funeral took place on Monday, the services being conducted by Revs. CURLIS, Wingart and Shoup. Mr. Elias Ellis, who was in town Tuesday, informs us that the attendance was the largest that he ever saw in that part of the country.
