3 Mr. Darrayl D. “Delly” Berger, 80, of Lehighton passed into eternal rest on Saturday, December 29th at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, Pa. He was the husband of Sharon C. (Schaeffer) Berger. They were married for 37 years on April 18th, 2018. Born in Coaldale, Pa. on Sunday, September 18, 1938, he was a son of the late Roy & Rita ( McLean) Berger. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver for Interstate Dress Carriers and later for New England Motor Freight in the same capacity. “Delly” was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ, Lehighton where he volunteered his time with the food bank. He held a Life membership at Lehigh Fire Company #1, Lehighton. A family oriented person, he enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his wife, children, & grandchildren. An avid auto racing enthusiast, he enjoyed going to the area racetracks to watch the competition. In his earlier years, he competed in local racing events as a stock car driver. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Tammy M., wife of Wilbur Green of Lehighton, a son Kenneth D. Berger & his wife, Cindy of Lehighton, a sister, Sandra, wife of Clement Breiner of Union Hill, 2 brothers, Thomas Berger & his wife Joyce, Don Berger & his wife Patsy, of Lehighton, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy A. & a brother, Duane “Smokey”. A Celebration of Life Service in his honor will be held on Friday, January 4th 2019 at Zion United Church of Christ 225 Iron St., Lehighton with the Rev. Dr. Dean D. Frey officiating. Call 9-11 a.m. on Friday in the church. Interment in the Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, 4th & Union St., Lehighton.
