Obit for William Stewart McElfresh, Jr:
William S. McElfresh, Jr., 28 of 5015 Foxfire Drive, died at 7:50 p.m., Monday, July 8, 1991, at Good Samaritan Medical Center emergency room following a motorcycle accident.

Mr. McElfresh was a lifelong resident of the Zanesville area and was employed at Eagle Sticks Golf Course. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Born Oct. 31, 1962, in Zanesville, he was a son of Doris McElfresh of 5015 Foxfire Drive and the late William S. McElfresh, Sr.

Surviving are one son, John Thomas McElfresh of Columbus; three sisters, Tammy Baughman of Zanesville, Tina Swope, of Nashport, and Lora Langwasser of Millersport; and one brother, John McElfresh of the home.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Larry Kudart officiating. Burial will be in Fultonham Cemetery.

Barbara Besler, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist. Barbara was born September 6, 1936 to Cecelia and Oliver Medearis in Waterloo, Iowa.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Steve) Finken, Dana (Jeff) Duncan and Nikki Gorla; her grandchildren, Danielle (Jason) Yonker, Darcie (Clayton) Lewis and Jim Besler; her great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Rylie, Jena and Natalie; her significant other, Paul Clergy and special friends, Fran, Janet and Cande.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow the mass at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Betty (Medearis) Tovar Stewart was born, November 4, 1932 in Waterloo, IA, daughter of Willard and Irma (Smith) Medearis. Betty received her education in the Waterloo schools.

She was united in marriage to Lyle Tovar and to this marriage two sons were born. Betty and Lyle later divorced.

She was employed in the Waterloo area for many years and worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Powers Manufacturing and retired from Wonder Bread Bakery. On December 2, 1993 she was married to Marvin Stewart and they made their home in Waterloo. Betty has been a patient at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where here death came on Wednesday evening, April 16, 2008 at the age of 75 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Arletta and a grandson Jason.

She is survived by her husband Marvin, two sons Michael Tovar of Waterloo and John Tovar of Prairie Du Chen, WI, one brother Earl (Linda) Medearis of Evansdale, Iowa, two sisters Karen (Lloyd) Thill of Santa Rosa, CA and Mary (Louie) Hall of Waterloo, and four grandchildren, Jude Tovar, Jessica Tovar, Sara Tovar and JD Tovar.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday; April 20, 2008 at the Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo, IA. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Monday; April 21, 2008 also at the Chapel. Interment will be at the Poyner Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. Bonnie Medearis Halvorson, 54, died Monday morning, Jan. 1, 1996, in Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Dennis Juhl. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a rosary at 4 and vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Waterloo, the daughter of Julian G. and Evelyn M. (Hayes) Medearis. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School in Waterloo, a 1962 graduate from the Young School of Beauty in Waterloo, and received her LPN degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids in 1964. On Sept. 16, 1964 she married Norbert K. Boleyn. The couple later divorced in 1968. On July 14, 1968, she married Charles A, Halvorson in Oskosh, Wis. The couple made their home in the Hazleton area. Mrs. Halvorson was employed as an LPN with the Buchanan County Home in Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of Hazleton, and one brother James J. Medearis of Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Obituary

EVANSDALE - Earl W. Medearis, 74, of Evansdale, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, July 21, at home following a long illness.

He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Waterloo, son of Willard Joseph Medearis and Erma Smith Medearis. He married Linda Ann White on Dec. 10, 1960, in Galena, Ill.

Following his educational years, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Medearis worked at Brownies Station and Titus Manufacturing in Waterloo. He worked 21 years as a machinist at Deere and Co. in Waterloo before retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Raymond, UAW Local 838 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 764, both in Waterloo.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, James (Debra) of Hudson and Michael (Grainne) of North St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Terri (Matt) Aschbrenner of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Karen (Lloyd) Thill of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mary (Louis) Hall of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a sister in infancy; and a sister, Betty Stewart.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with burial in Poyner Township Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.white-mthope.com.

He enjoyed being outdoors, nature, hunting and fishing, while spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.

Full Obituary:
Dennis Dean Meints, a resident of Dothan passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at his sister’s residence. He was 58. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 30, 2010 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Biss officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Meints was born on July 3, 1952 in Manchester, Iowa and graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Army for 6 years. He operated Spray-On Enterprises and later drove a truck for several years until his retirement in July 2010.

Survivors include his mother Verla Meints of Dothan; brothers, Rick Meints of Dothan and Gary Meints and his wife Laurel of Hartford; sisters, Dianne Binion and her husband Glenn of Olive Hill, KY, Jackie Binion and her husband Wayne of Grayson, KY, Sandi Kessler of Spokane, WA, and Teresa Galloway and her husband Paul of Dothan; daughters, Jennifer Meints of Jacksonville, FL and Mona Kilpatrick and her husband Billy of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Chelsie, Sierra, and Logan; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive.
