Norma E. Sovocool was born on 28 June 1921 in Groton, Tompkins, New York.2 She and Howard Ransellaer Slade were married on 11 April 1939.3 She died on 12 December 2016, at age 95, in Cortland, Cortland, New York. She was buried in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Kelloggsville, Cayuga, New York.
MORAVIA - Norma S. Slade, 95, formerly of Locke and Moravia, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 in Cortland Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Norma was born June 28, 1921 in Groton, N.Y., a daughter of Emmett and Violet Sherman Sovocool. She had lived in Moravia most of her life and had been employed at Slade & Sovocool until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia and a Life member of the Moravia Grange.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard R. Slade in 2007, and a daughter, Nancy Reynolds in 1984.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie Harvey, Robert (Barbara) Slade, Sharon (Ernest) Newbury, and Donna Rockhill; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, E. Clifford Sovocool; a sister, Hilda Petersen; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. Burial services will be held in the spring of 2017 in Kelloggsville Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are welcomed to go to the United Methodist Women’s Thrift Shop or Four Town First Aid Squad.

Richard Perry Sovocool was a Payroll Employee-Smith Corona.1 Richard P. Sovocool, age 83, of 1965 Peruville Road, Freeville, NY died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. "Dick" was born May 20, 1923 in Cortland, NY a son of the late Emmet and Violet Sherman Sovocool. A long time area resident, Dick had resided in the McLean area for more than 50 years. His wife, Helen Sovocool, passed away November 24, 1995. Dick was a retired payroll department employee of Smith-Corona and worked part time on area farms. He was a avid sportsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his children, Scott (Marilyn) of Dallas, TX, Jeremiah (Ann) of Colonial Heights, VA, Sandra O'Flanagan of Grafton, OH, Arthur (Carla) Sovocool of Fort Wayne, IN, Karen Sovocool of Freeville, Richard Sovocool of Binghamton and Michael (Betty) of Groton, Darla (Roger) Eggleston of Freeville; his siblings; Norma (Howard) Slade, Emmet "Clifford" (Alice) Sovocool of Moravia, Elizabeth (Paul) Crouch of Groton, Edith (George) Clark of Dryden, Hilda Peterson of Groton; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cheryl, who died in 1953; a son, Raymond, who died 2005; and siblings, Neva Barhite, Vera Burlingame, Carlton, Ralph and Lawrence Jay Sovocool.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. John Iler officiating. Burial will be later in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorial donations are graciously directed to the McLean Fire Dept., P.O. Box 121, McLean, NY 13102.

CORTLAND - Stuart Lee Sovocool, 48, of Cortland, passed away July 24, 2006. He was born May 3, 1958.

Stuart attended school in Dryden. He had worked for his uncle at Slade & Sovocool's in Moravia during his youngers years. Over the years he was a self-employed contractor and will be remembered for his quality and dedication.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (William Sherwood) Sovocool of Ithaca; sisters, Karla (Lance) Hoag of Groton, Charlene Sovocool of Freeville; stepmother and her husband, Shirley Sovocool of Moravia; half siblings, Brian (Becky) Sovocool of CA, Jason Sovocool of CA, Tina (Gerald) Feenaughty of Candor, Tammy (Eric) Laughlin of TN, Marty Sovocool of Moravia; nieces, nephews, many friends including those at the Yellow Lantern and Gable Inn.

Stuart was predeceased by his father, Carlton Sovocool.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Monday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A calling hour will be held 2-3 p.m. prior to the service.

Groton: Elizabeth "Betty" M. Crouch, 77 of 301 Clinton Ave., Groton, died July 6, 2011 at the Cayuga Medical Center after an extended illness. Betty was born October 23, 1933 in Moravia, NY, a daughter of the late Emmett and Violet Sherman Sovocool. Betty grew up in Moravia and has been a resident of the Groton area for the past 54 years. She worked for Smith Corona in Cortland and Groton for 33 years until illness made it difficult to continue working. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Moravia and the Groton Senior Citizens. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul H. Crouch, Sr. at home, her children, Deborah (Gary) Hendrix and Paul (Demaris) Crouch, Jr., both of Groton; her siblings, Edith (George) Clark of Dryden, Hilda Peterson of Groton, Emmett "Clifford" Sovocool of Moravia and Norma Slade of Moravia; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and dear friends, James and Tammy Burlingame of Freeville. Paul H. Crouch, Sr., 89, of Clinton Avenue, Groton passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

Paul wa born May 5, 1931 in the Town of Ledyard, Cayuga County, New york, a son of the late John Henry and Elsie Cleo Allen.

Born into a large family he quit school at an early age to go to work to help support the family.

He married Elizabeth "Betty" M. Sovocool of Moravia in 1952 and she died on July 6, 2011.

A resident of Groton for over 60 years, he became employed with Smith Corona in Groton where he worked for many years until his retirement. An accomplished handyman, he helped family, friends, neighbors and anyone else who needed it, fixing whatever was broke or needed repairing. He enjoyed woodworking and helping his son, Paul Jr., a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He also worked for several years at Zirbel Funeral Home in Groton, working funerals and doing anything else that was asked of him.

Paul is survived by his children, Deborah (Gary) Hendrix and Paul (Demaris) Crouch, Jr., all of Groton; seven grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, a sister, Ellas May Swearingen and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Neal in 2010 and brothers, Kenneth Merriman, Charles Crouch, Robert "Bob" Crouch and John "Al" Crouch.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Groton Rural Cemetery at a date and time to be anounced. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Groton Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 96, Groton, NY 13073.
