1,3 Morris J. "Johnny" Kuenzli, 82, 525 Dolly Ave., Upper Sandusky, died at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
He was born in Eden Township, Wyandot County, to the late Louis A. and Fern (Morris) Kuenzli. He was married Aug. 31, 1941, in Good Hope Lutheran Church, Bucyrus, to Thelma Shealy who survives.
Also surviving are a son, the Rev. Timothy Kuenzle of Cincinnati, two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Jacqueline) McConnell of Freno, Calif., nd Mrs. James (Lynn) Kensinger of Worthington, s sister, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Ruhling of Gahanna, eight grandchildren, John, Jacob, Ann and Luke Kuenzli, Elizabeth and Erin Kensinger and Andrew and Sarah McConnell.
Mr. Kuenzli was a teacher with the Nevada schools from 1935- 1941. He owned and operated Kuenzli Quarries and Gravel from 1941-1981. He was a 50 year member of the Warpole Lodge 176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter 96 RAM and Upper Sandusky Council 98 RSM. He was a life member of BPOE 83, former board Member of the Harding Area Boy Scouts of America and was serving as a board member of the library board.
A 1931 graduate of Eden High School, he graduated from Ohio Northern University. He wa a veteran of World War II in the Eighth Air Force-European Theater.
Mr. Kuenzli was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where he served on church council as president, sang in the choir and was a member of the church Visitation Committee. He was active in churchwide activities and led the choirs at the former Trinity EUB and Presbyterian churches. He was a member of the Varsity O at Ohio Northern where he lettered in basketball, and was a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity, student director of the band and men's glee club. He officated at high school and college basketball and football, played baseball locally for many years, coached Little League baseball.
He served on the Upper Sandusky School Board from 1950-70, Ohio Sate Citizens Advisory Board at Marion Branch, was past president of the UpperSandusky Rotary, Paul Harris Fellow-Rotary International Foundation and member of the Process Lime Stone Association.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky. the Rev. Wayne Josephson will officiate with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be held Thursday at the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Masonic Memorial Service is Thursday at 8:45 p.m.
