M, #6482
Biography
The Humberstone Township-First Fifty Years (1784-1834) lists Matthew Wormwood as a Loyalist by the Justices of the Peace on 15 October 1787. He was granted Lot 27, 2nd Concession. He had served as a soldier in Butler's Rangers, probably in Ralph Clenche's Company. His Christian name was sonetimes spelled as "Mathias". He was accepted as a Loyalist by the magistrates at Niagara on 15 October 1797. There is some thought that this might be an anglicization of a German name.
