1 BRADFORD DELMER PEARSON.
Tried to "Hitch" Ride, See Fellow Pupil Killed
Tillsonburg:- Horrified fellow pupils saw Bradford Delmer Pearson 14, killed yesterday in front of the Ostrander School as he tried to hitch a ride on a tractor-drawn load of corn. The 120 pupils at the four room Ostrander School on Concession 9 of Dereham Township, had been let out an hour early because of a planned teacher's meeting. The pupils were still spilling out of the school doors when the accident happened, on the stretch of road adjacent to school property.
The youth, son of Jack Pearson of R.R.2 Courtland and Mrs. Eleanor Pearson, of Port Rowan, lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Pearson of R.R.3 Tillsonburg. His sister Sandra also lives there. A grade 7 pupil, Bradford had just left the school when he tried to jump aboard the wagon of corn. He fell, and the wheels of the wagon passed over him. The driver of the tractor pulling the wagon, Alec Bradburn, 39 Tillsonburg, was not aware of the accident until he stopped 200 feet up the road, at the intersection of Concession 8 and highway 19.
The victim was taken to Tillsonburg and District Memorial Hospital by Gray's Ambulance and was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. H. J. Alexander, Tillsonburg, Coroner. Also surviving the youth are grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Andress, of Port Rowan. The body is at the H.A. Ostrander and Son Funeral Home Tillsonburg. Arrangements are incomplete.
