RAPID CITY - Maxine Curtis, 83, Rapid City, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at Westhills Village Health Care Facility
Maxine was born on a ranch near Draper, SD Aug. 4, 1922, the daughter of Lyle and Alemedia Louder. She joined 2 sisters and 8 brothers and was the last to leave this world to join them.
She attended school in Draper and Murdo. After graduating from high school, she and her mother and sister moved to Rapid City where she attended a new business college on St. Joe St. The college is where she met Marvin Curtis. The summer of 1942 she began working at Buckingham Transportation trucking company as an accountant. Four years later, she and Marvin, who had returned from the Navy, were married on February 19, 1948. They were blessed with 3 wonderful sons.
Maxine retired from doing office work in the mid sixties after working for the Buckingham firms and Barber Transportation Company. She became involved in such activities as bridge, golf and traveling. They enjoyed many years of dancing, especially square dancing, and attended a national square dancing competition in Denver, CO.
Marvin retired from his job in 1982 and they went to Sun City, AZ for the first two winters and then lived there for 9 years at Sun City West. They then returned to Rapid City. While at the Sun Cities, Maxine worked at a gift shop for a few years and she and Marvin volunteered to work at the Del Webb Hospital in the gift shop.
Surviving are her husband, Marvin, three sons, Norman and his wife, Carol, Gillette, WY and their son Tony and their daughter, Danielle and her husband, Roby and grandchildren Spencer, Lane, Daniel & Ryan; Richard and his wife, Rhonda, Troy, IL and their 2 daughters, Kristine and her husband Darron Butler and their son, Nolan and daughter Madison and Lindy and her husband, Joe Sink and their daughter Brittany; and Rodney and his wife, Juanita, Peoria, AZ, their son, Joseph and daughter, Maria and grandson, Damien; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Diehl officiating. Visitation will be at the church 1 hour before the service. Interment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
