John Pattin (J.p.) Dennis was a Farmer.2 James P. Dennis was born in Ann Arbor May 8, 1830, and died March 18, 1913, aged 81 years. His father James Dennis, Sr., died when he was 8 years old. He lived with his mother, Sally Carl Dennis until he was 11 years old, when he went to live with his uncle, Samuel Carl, near Lansing, until 16 years of age, then with his mother, who had married Paul Otis, and lived north of Dansville until he married. He marrried Abagil Garrison Aug. 5, 1848. To them were born 11 children. Five have passed on before, three in infancy, Alvin at six years and Warren at 20. Those still living are Joel Dennis of Nebraska, Mrs. Albert Simons, Mrs. Chancey Simons, Mrs. J. Wolcott, Mrs. Walter Squires and Harvey Dennis. Since their marriage they have always lived in Ingham township. As steward and trustee he helped to build the Methodist Protestant church, and had always been interested in all services held in that building. He had been a member of the Odd Fellow order for over a score of years. He has two own brothers and two half-sisters living. One, Mrs. Anna Sedwick, of Okemos is able to be present. The other, Mrs. Benjamin Coleson, lives near Munith, but is very sick at the present time. The testimony of these few hours since his death, in acts of sympathy, tell us the respect that his neighbors had for their departed friend.
