George Dennis Kilmer was also known as 1. He was a Farmer.
The information on this descendant line came from Brian Gaber (hodag@t-online.de). He has additional information on the Kilmer ancestral line another 5 generations.
There is some question as to the spelling of the family name. Almost all descendants of the Palatine
(German) immigrants from upstate New York have used the "Kilmer" spelling. The tribute to George D. Kilmer (Harriet's father) in 1900 used the spelling "Killmer". The descendants of George Dennis Kilmer that I have located all use the "Kilmer" spelling, so I have decided to use the "one l" version throughout this genealogy, regardless of whether the family may have at one time used the "Killmer" version or not.
The original German spelling of the name is not clear. In early records it appears as "Kelmer", "Külmer", or even "Kühlmann". Most Palatine Germans altered their names, voluntarily or involuntarily, to simplify spelling and pronunciation in their new English speaking settlements in North America.

In June 1837 George enlisted to take part in the Canadian Rebellion, but was not in any battle. (David Glenn Kilmer) In 1840 he started a three year apprenticeship as a tanner. George married Ellen Westover in 1843 and continued his work as a tanner until 1853. The thought of owning his own farm lured George Killmer to Dodge county, Wisconsin, where he spent the summer preparing his farm for the arrival of his wife and children, whom he brought from Canada that fall. After ten years of farming in Wisconsin the family removed to Blue Earth Co., Minnesota. Moved to Wisconsin in 1852, and to Minnesota in 1862 - David Glenn Kilmer
The 1860 census shows George and wife in Coloma, Waushara Co., WI

I do know that the Kilmer's were German and came to the New world very early in the 1700's? What information we could find, may have entered through Canada and then moved south. This family used to spell the last name Killmer, with two l's. But changed it during World War I. So as to prove American, not German. loyalty The oldest brother, Dwight, kept the double l spelling. His descendents, the Killmers, are based in the Brainerd, MN area and have a family reunion there the first Sunday in August every year. His granddaughter is still there. Beth Powell.

I was hunting for Grant S. Kilmer, as the story goes that he was in France in the Army in WWI. He took ill and died in France and was buried there. 1917 or 1918. As did so many men in the trenches. We were just given the flag from his coffin and wanted to find his service record if we could. I'm hoping for a photo also. He would have been 23 or 24 years old while enlisted As far as we knew he had never been married or had children.

As far as the last child born in this family. His name was Arnum Kilmer, married Lucille and lived in Fairmont, MN.

The children Lester and Clifford were twins. Clifford also lived in Fairmont, MN. Not sure of his trade. Lester was a chef at Twin Cities hotels, possibly Hotel Sofitel in later years. Lester and Emma lived in Minneapolis in a beautiful old three story home (now in a very bad neighborhood) on Lake Street. They were foster parents for many years. Even when grandparents themselves, they still took care of newborns who needed a short term stay. That was very unusual. His wife Emma also had foster babies after her husband passed away. The county must have really thought very highly of them. Sometimes they had a dozen children at one time. Emma's sister came over to help feed and watch over all those youngsters.

Freeman moved to Idaho and died there Feb 9, 1971, Wilder, Idaho. Seems to be the black sheep of the family.

Frank and Jennie lived in western Wisconsin.

Helen Kilmer lived in Truman, MN. Her husband died quite early in their marriage. Had several children. One daughter was June.

Grace and Jim farmed by Granada, MN. Retired to Truman, MN. Jim was English. Jim and C.D. (Dewey) were best friends and that is how Grace met him.

C. D. and Ada lived in rural La Salle, MN and then rural Madelia. Retired into Madelia. Attended Methodist church there. That is how they met. C.D. left home in 1915, as a 17 year old young man to work as a hired man on a farm in rural Madelia and to help out his folks. He sent money home and was one less mouth to feed.

Albert lived in Albert Lea, MN

George Leslie lived in Eagle Lake, MN and was a master electrician, he sold and repaired appliances. He never married. He had the most beautiful singing voice. We have a reel tape of a small section of a song he was singing for church. Tape is not in good shape anymore

Their mother Grace Jenkins was from Waseca. She lived with her son George in Eagle Lake after her husband died. Tiny little lady.

The father, Charley was tall and big. Very large hands. He was redheaded with a temper to match. A very good blacksmith. They lived by Madelia first then Vernon Center, then Amboy, then Black Duck, and finally Milaca. All in Minnesota. C.D. would travel by train to visit them now and then.

Dewey and Ada had six children. My husband is their youngest son.

I also found a record that Charles Clark Kilmer and Grace Jenkins were married July 4,1886 at Smiths Mill in Waseca County, Minnesota. I know Ada told me more than once about a family member who got married in Iowa at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. Don't remember now who it was. But the record shows it wasn't Charley and Grace as I had thought. ...Maybe it was Ada and Dewey who wanted to get married there, but ended up just in the parsonage of Madelia Methodist Church. He was a Blacksmith in Vernon Center, Minnesota, in 1900.2
