Age 95, of Blossburg, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Green Home, Wellsboro. Born November 21, 1913, she was a daughter of Mary Anderson and Elwood Rose. Kathryn was the wife of the late Glen H. Whittaker and sister of the late Eleanor D. Rose Wilson. She graduated from Mansfield State Teacher's College in 1937 and taught in the Arnot, Morris, Elkland, Covington and Blossburg elementary schools, retiring in 1974. Kathryn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blossburg and belonged to the church's Alpha group. She was a charter member of Twilight Chapter # 475 O.E.S. in Mansfield. Kathryn enjoyed music, gardening, traveling and poetry. She played piano, sang in the church choir and preformed solos for many weddings. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Nancy Holley of Elmira; her step grandchildren, Sean (Patti) Holley and Colleen (Alex) DiVernieri; step great-grandchildren, Katelyn Holley, Matthew and Victoria Valicenti; nephew, Robert (Joan) Wilson of Edgewater, MD; niece, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Yankowy of College Park, MD; grandnephews and nieces, Karen (Mack) Salehi, Thomas (Theresa) Wilson, Scott (Leslie) Yankowy, Shannon Yankowy, Amanda (Joseph) Stitz and William Yankowy; and many friends. Funeral services will be held from the Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg, Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. Rev. Jason Guillaume will officiate; burial will be at Arbon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Blossburg Memorial Library in Kathryn's name would be appreciated.

He was an Army veterann of World War I.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William Mack, Belmar; a brother, Wesley Backer, Livingston, and eight grandchildren.
