3 Walter Wanck
Walter Eugene Wanck of Naples, FL and Saratoga Springs, NY crossed over gently, September 20, 2010 in Naples at age 90 of rapidly progressing pancreatic cancer. Until less than a month before death he was in his usual excellent health. Despite the quickness of death, he was able to emotionally and spiritually prepare himself for it and accept it. He did so in his typical authentic, friendly and loving style. He was known best by relatives, friends and acquaintances for his profound loving kindness which he radiated in an entirely nonjudgmental and embracing manor. He was born at home in rural northern Pennsylvania where he was raised with his older brother, Bob and his sister Marg. Although he attended church, nature was his true church where he said he could most easily find and enjoy the presence of God in all things. He attended high school in Towanda, PA where he met Beatrice Dewey, to whom he was lovingly devoted in marriage for 66 years until her passing 3 years ago. One year after her passing he fell in love with Carolyn who'd been a dear friend of his and Beas for 20 years.
Following his marriage to Bea, they moved around the south before Walt attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia from which he graduated in 1949. Partly because of having poor vision himself he followed the calling of helping others to have improved vision. They moved to Waynesboro, PA and raised their son Bick while Walt practiced Optometry for nearly 40 years. Their only child, Bick went to college as a varsity swimmer at Penn State, graduated from medical school and practices Psychiatry in Saratoga Springs, NY where he lives with his wife Ramona. Walt's family includes his granddaughters, Kristen Tracy-Wanck and Sarah Tracy-Wanck, now in their 20's, who he dearly cherished, and loved. He lived in Naples, FL near his loving nephew, Jim and his wife, Claudia and their children, Nicholas and Robert who were like children and grandchildren to him. Walt dearly loved all his nephews and niece and their families. His nephews include Ronald Wanck of Athens, PA, Deborah Singer of Waynesboro, PA who predeceased him, Jack McCracken of Forrest Hills, MD, Jeff McCracken of Waynesboro, PA and Raymond and Jeffrey Dewey of the Richmond, VA area. Walt dearly loved all of them and their families.
